Hi all,
I asked for help how to swap old card for new card.

General answer was uninstall drivers, reboot, remove program file folder, switch off, fit new card, install drivers.

I went from a 6770 to a 7950

My problem is if I load a game it will crash no more than 30 seconds in but then I reboot and reload game and it works fine :-\

Any ideas as I don't want to do a clean install again and I don't have any driver cleaning programs

Thanks

What make and model PSU are you using? There's a chance that it isn't supplying enough power which is why the PC is resetting under load.

EDIT: Just re-read your comment, weird that it works ok the second time round.

Hi, when you installed the new card, you should have cleared the CMOSS and loaded optimized defaults settings then F10[SAVE] boot into windows, install GPU drivers.

I have an Antec True Power 650 which is marked as an 80 plus bronze, I did some reading and it should be powerful enough. I used to get a bit of a problem with the old, display driver stopped responding and has recovered but this is a world apart.

That's not necessary at all.

Didn't clear the CMOS but I really didn't think it would make a difference.
I could do a CMOS reset now I suppose as I'm not OC'd?

Hi again, the reason you clear the cmos and load default settings is because the cmos holds the information on whats in your system ie > what cpu you have, harddrive, gpu, etc. Because you have installed a new gpu a 7950 from a 6770 you need to refresh the cmos so it picks up the 7950.

If i clear the CMOS now then, as in restart, hit delete and reload original settings, will I still be able to "wing" it with already having the new drivers loaded?

Small update;
I run a 960T that was unlocked to a hex core, I've locked it back down to a quad and now games run fine :-S

Guess i'll just have to clock it instead :-D

Problem sorted, just for reference, although I realise I should have probably done a CMOS reset, I booted up into BIOS, switch core unlocker back on and restarted the machine. On restart I ran a re-WE score test and now I seem to have no problems.
Still not done a CMOS but everything is running sweetly at the moment.
