My buddy crashed his RX7 on weds, coming onto the A329m at showcase cinema in winnersh.

Pulled out into the outside lane to overtake, just after the rain has been falling, not sure exactly what happened next, but he said he felt everything sliding, and ended up nose first into a barrier over a 30ft drop!

Im so gutted, was a lovely example, he and his GF are both fine, picked them up from Hospital on the same night, bruises and cuts.

What i want to know, is does the RX7 have a safety cell type feature, as the passenger area was pretty much untouched, and were talking about a motorway accident here?!

Exactly the same thing would have happened if he had been in a 106 GTi, 'cos OcUK says there is nothing different about RWD and its just as safe!

My guess would be Aquaplaning, I was out driving on the motorway in the heavy rain on Wednesday and I might as well of taken a surf board.

Modern car, so yes it would have some kind of "safety cell"

Glad he & his GF are ok - cars ,however nice, can be repaired / replaced.

He booted it in the wet, then..

wait, if you didn't get my point the first time round it's quite obviously lost on you :)

he said he pulled out to overtake - which is what most people do to overtake do they not? I am lost on you, where does he say his mate "booted it" ?

We will never know what happened, the police are showing an interest though.
A few charges were bandied about.

Nothing official yet, other than a producer. No other cars involved, and no one injured, so with a bit of luck he wont get anything too bad :)

Hes had the car for a number of years (iirc) and knew it backwards, both internally and externally. Its maintained well, and hes not one to drive like a nutter.

The main reason i posted was because im amazed at how they both walked away and the car broke up so well without damaging the passenger cell.

He doesn't but you don't overtake without accelerating do you

It was a throwaway comment made in jest aimed at the people who claim no type of car is inherently less 'safe' than any other. Now you are going to turn it into an arguement. Good skills :)

Very lucky he landed like that, if the car had landed upside down from 30ft they both would have died.
Maybe I read it wrong but the barrier that stopped the car was over a 30ft drop. The car never went down the drop.

or I could be completely wrong :o

Ouch!

The roads are generally extremely greasy at the moment, I had Kate's Silvia on the lockstops last night coming out of a junction and I wasn't trying very hard at all.

Its your "throw away comments" that get your head bitten off - I'm not argueing any point, their is no point to argue apart from your initial throwaway comment which you've now explained.

Good skills? - I'm not a member of the ditch finders club am I mate? ;)

Don't jump on your high horse, its just that yet again, you walk into yet more ribbing! :p :D ;)

Yer, the car didnt go over the drop, the barrier did its job!

There have been accidents there before, a sierra went through and into the showcase car park 30 ft below, was a fatal.

I'll agree with that. Had to pull onto the A47 from a standing start on what looked to be a bone dry road. Apparently traction control doesn't stop you lighting up the tyres after all :o

Relevance -1

If your going to bring up off road incidents completely at random your going to have to do it for about half the people on the forum, myself included.
