crashed ... again :(

how did your lid come off?
yeah i would be interested in this as well.

As harsh as it sounds i think every biker needs to come off in the beginning (lightly of course) just to show you how vulnerable you are. I came off my bike 2 weeks after i passed my CBT.

was raining i was too close to the car in front and i caught a manhole cover.
To this day i have been a lot more cautious when riding and touch wood have not had an accident since.

What road psoition did you have? I.e were you riding like it was a push bike 1 foot from the kerb or were you 2/3 across your lane from the curb?

Aye, and I think everyone should do a couple of years compulsary on a bike. There wouldn't be as many morons around then.

Glad you're alright Chopper, sounds like you took a fair knock. Just rest up, when your fit again get your ass on a mates bike somewhere quiet. Then make the decision whether you want to ride again or not. At least you know what happened, I think the worst thing for me would be not knowing the cause, difficult to learn from it then.

rubbish, there would be more morons on bikes. i think i see a higher percentage of bike riders that i think are morons compared to car drivers. the last thing we need is more moronic bikers on the road.

You must drive around with yours eyes shut then. There are moron riders granted, generally there luck runs out though. Not seen many bikers shaving, reading papers, applying makeup, gassing on the phone, watching an in dash tv (I kid you not  ), eating, drinking and generally not paying attention whist out and about ;). If you don't pay attention on a bike you die, if you don't pay attention in a car you generally injure/kill someone else. Riding teaches you to pay a lot more attention to your surroundings, road surface, positioning, other drivers etc. Makes for a much better driver.

Exactly Sorry Morba but what you said is bull lol being stupid and high speed on a bike kills not driving around not paying attention like 70% of car drivers, if a biker isnt concentrating for 1 minuit he will end up in a ditch or get rear ended

and all of those people do not overtake when they shouldnt, weave between cars when its not safe, drive like they own the road when they dont.
what i said cannot be wrong, as it is how i see it. if you dont see that then thats ok, but i do.
i see a higher percentage of idiot riders than i do drivers. note i say percentage, not total.

both. however the latter comes from an abundance of the former ;]

again, i said percentage, which could mean i see 3 bikers a week of which 2 are idiots compared to 10000 cars and 5000 muppets ;]

Spot on

It's rare that i know of a friend who's accident was genuinely their own stupid fault... Usually car drivers just not realising where bikes are...

to the OP

Get back on it mate. Best thing you can do. A couple of off's aint nice, but you'll regret it in years to come if you give up now.

It took me a while after landing in the middle of a jammed Dual Carrigeway on a Bank Holiday weekend (Moron undertook us, then Jammed the stoppers on 2 feet infront of us), but I did it, and still swear that I will never drive unless i have to, and then in a decent car. The missus has more chance to learn to drive properly than I do (i get nervous just being in a car, let alone controling one)

Stop being a numpty, please.

I can go fast, *where it is safe and practical to do so*
Fair enough, doing 50 in town is just plain stupid, but cruising at a ton on a motorway, or even maxing it out on the Autobahn? The only Off i've ever had is the one above... and I can thrash it with the best of them if it's pratical to do so. Stop spouting about things you plainly know absolutely nothing about.

Given, Undertaking is just plain silly, and it tends to be crotch-rocket riders, but in general, thay are not "bikers" as us bikers tend to see it... give it a few years until Bikes are no longer fashionable, and watch the accident statistics drop. I'll still be there, all year round.

Agreed. I've only been riding for 3 weeks and the only incident I've had so far was caused by a woman not seeing me who then pulled out and forced me into the oncoming lane. I swear I wasn't speeding, in fact, I'd say I'm very cautious, plus it was the middle of the day so visibilty was pretty much at an optimum.

On the other side of the coin, and at least round where I live, there are a multitude of idiotic moped riders (not tarring all 'ped riders with the same brush here) who have no apparent road sense and think nothing of undertaking, speeding, using bus lanes etc. So I can see how bikers can be given a bad name by these morons. Plus, there are a couple of lads who even have neons strapped to the bottom of their 'peds, never fails to make me chuckle.

To the OP: I hope your scars heal quickly and you can find your way back onto a bike.

how on earth can you tell me what i see and what i dont see, and then say i know nothing about what i see?
who said that you are not one of the few non idiot bikers out there?

you must be a muppet to not be able to comprehend what i posted.

someone riding a motorised bike is a biker, how you bikers class others i dont care.

idiot.

Ah, well, if you live in a bit of a biking hot spot then chances are you going to see more than your fair share of numpties which will skew the figures so to speak. The same as people who live close to racetracks etc will see an abundance of loons. If I lived near Matlock Bath or the Cat and Fiddle I'd probably feel the same. I haven't been to either for a long time now, far too dangerous, more chance of being hit by another bike than anything else. I like to ride where other people aren't, which is why I'm usually out for a ride at 6:00am :D
