Crashes on high intensive games.

Define "crashes". Does it blue screen? Crash to desktop? Does the system turn off? Screen go black? Is the system usable after the crash?

the computer shuts down and can't be turned on by pushing the case on/off switch.
However by using the powersupply on off switch it can be switched on.

Run the Heaven benchmark which will allow you to keep an eye on the GPU temp as it ramps up. If that stays under 80c then its unlikely a heat issue. It could also be a PSU issue amongst others.

It does however sound like a hardware issue, so contact OcUK tech support and see what they suggest.

A hunch I feel its the PSU, upon the sudden shut down putting my hand near the area of the PSU, it feels warm. and I think maybe a burning smell, not sure. will try out these test now. Also confuse about the mem test.

Is the PSU fan spinning?

If you have a spare USB flash drive you can use the "Download - Auto-installer for USB Key (Win 9x/2k/xp/7)" option to make a bootable drive. You then reboot the computer, boot from that and it will run the test. Will take quite a few hours depending on how much memory you have, generally 2 passes 0 errors shows there is nothing wrong. If you see lots of errors right away then that is usually a sign something is wrong with the hardware and you can stop the test right away.

I had the same problem with my system, l had to increase the fan speed to 100% on my HD 7970.

This cured the shut down as the GPU was overheating (warm summer), l also increased the case fans to dump the excess heat out as soon as possible as l use the Arctic Accelero Xtreme 7970/7950 VGA Cooler which dumps a lot of heat into the case.

Luckily the Accelero is quiet even at 100%.

Customer Service/Webnote is your best bet. A stock system with no overclocking shouldn't crash under load regardless of how hot the ambient temp gets.

Most HD 7970's will sound like a jet engine at 100% fan speed. AMD Cards can take around 90C under load when bitcoin mining etc but you really want to be no more than 80C.

Real Temp would be worth running in case the CPU is hitting thermal max. Are the fans & heatsinks all clean and free from a carpet of dust? If not clean them out with a can of compressed air.

Umm yes. Oh I didn't mention what programs I tested it with. I tested the graphics card using Furmark with precision x and the CPU using Prime95 and core temp. Everything seems ok.

Also this is a new PC, there isn't any dust.

Seems strange that it would crash on two specific titles, but not Furmark which seems to produce the highest power draw. How long did you run Furmark for?

Maybe try something like Heaven, leaving it running rather than using the benchmark function: http://unigine.com/products/heaven/

I didn't really run furmark for quite long, only about 3 mins.
I followed your suggestion to run heaven and leaving it running, in about 8 mins it crashed.

(Crash as in complete shut off)
