Hey all, got a problem that I hope you can help me with.

About a month ago I started getting random crashing while playing World of Warcraft. It's odd in that it's the only game in which it happens - I play C&C3, UT3, NFS Carbon, to name but a few and i've never had any problems with them.

It can happen anywhere in the game, but the framerate will stall, then the sound will stutter and stutter gradually until it's just frozen totally. Nothing will bring it out at all except a reset.

I thought it was my X-Fi doing it so I took it out and although it stopped for a week or so, it's started doing it again.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, 8 hours Orthos/8 hours Memtest all passes fine.

can it be software conflicting with each other

while using the GUI version of F@H, i can not play some games as it will cause me to BSOD, so i suggest turning off as many tasks you are running as possible and see if that helps then slowly eliminate the supect if it is a software problem

tried the most up to date drivers for your card?

Everything's up to date.

Tried running just bare, i.e everything in system tray disabled, I closed as many processes as I could, keeping the system stable.

It still did it.

I'm really at a loss, i'm starting to think it's just another bug with WoW and my video card (3870X2).

only game that crashes on my system is hellgate london but only on high settings, think it could be the memory leak they told gamers about in their patch releases.

can you get dxlog it could tell you the problem. try that

Sounds like the drivers tbh.

I know that the ATi cards have always been a bit iffy with WoW.

You're in the beta team Tute you know what you have to do :)

i know its a pain as you will lose your gui settings and macros etc, but delete your wtf folder and wdb folders ......and try again. random crashes in wow are generally down to a corrupt file somewhere in one of those two folders, failing that reinstall the game from scratch.

i generally keep a back up of the entire freshly installed and patched wow directory just for this reason.

Okay...

Uninstalled WoW, rebooted ready to reinstall and it comes up with the "Windows has recovered from a serious error" dialog box.

That's not a good thing is it? :/

It isn't CPU or memory related as you tested with Orthos so then I would suspect the GPU (overheating/Drivers) or perhaps the harddisk needing a format or has a bad block?

Have you tried looping 3DMark to see if the GPU can run that for a while without locking?
