The advantages of being such a large entity, I guess they ship loads of stuff together, else they would be taking a loss on that price if you look at what the shipping and delivery would have cost. That is one of the reasons why no small businesses can compete with Amazon.

I had a really long update list when I bought a laptop on a HUKD thread last year. I think it was a Lenovo but it shipped straight out of Korea or somewhere then went to China and through Asia. Eventually it got on a plane to Germany. Then went accross Germany to another depot where it got on another plane over to the UK. Some of the people on the thread - since they had been waiting weeks for them to ship - found the actual flight into the UK live on that flight tracking website. lol

Not sure I cam beat those, but routinely waiting over 3 weeks for USPS to get stuff that should take 2 to 5 days is becoming irritating.

I will have a look and see if I have any crazy ones.

@sanaxe1 I had orders out of China cancelled on me during pandemic.

It came to the UK and then went back to Germany before coming back to the UK.
You mean this bit?
"Initiated customs clearance process
SOUTHEND-ON-SEA, Essex"

That's just starting the paperwork.
The package itself is still in Schkeuditz, but they're sending a cargo manifest or something ahead, so the receiving office knows what to expect when it arrives.

I used to run shipping exports and we had to fax a Bill of Lading (list of what's in the container) and an inspection report (done by the company who then seal the container shut) over to the receiving country's import office. They'd then crack the seal, inspect the stuff and if all was as it should be, issue a Clean Report of Findings to the customer, which they then used to get the shipment released to them.
I imagine this is just something similar.

Here's one of mine from a few months ago from DHGate.. checkmate? It went back and forth around China few times before finally getting out the country. It arrived fine in the end :p

Most likely just delays in electronic updates from different servers in different countries. Seems more prevalent from shipments in and around China, but you can get that with any of them.

Most of the Items I get from Amazon used to come from Dunfermline directly towards Dundee / Fife for Delivery but for the last 6 months drive from Dunfermline passed fife / Dundee to Aberdeen only to then be delivered via a driver who has to drive from Aberdeen down to dundee and into Fife. It's insane and clearly not at all "green" delivery. They had a delivery depot in Dundee so I have no idea what this is all about.

I once ordered something from a small retailer in Cali to me in the UK. The postage was more than the item but in total still 1/3 of the price to buy it in the UK. Booked it on 'Priority Shipping'.

On the first day it travelled 8 miles from the store to the airport where it sat for 16 days at a USPS warehouse :-/
then once it was chucked on a plane it was with me within 24hrs.

I'd hate to know how slow standard shipping would have been.

Don't have the list at hand, but I ordered a backpack on Amazon that is sold by a shop about 50 miles away from my house. When despatched it went on a grand tour around the European hubs and took 12 days to arrive.

Sadly don't have the tracking any more but I had an order from Mouser (USA) go all around the world due to a mix up in France (Roissy/CDG) - still got to me a few days later though and intact. Was only about 2/3rds as long as Pho's list though.
