I don't understand this. Phoned around for quotes on Wednesday. Norwich Union Direct quote me £1730. Go to a specialist broker who quote me £860 with ... Norwich Union. Same excess, same circumstances. I don't get it

Needless to say NU Direct didn't get the business.

Insurance can be just plain anoying at times.

When I bought my new car a couple of weeks ago I called endsleigh to check it'd be OK and they said it'd be fine to switch cars. Once i'd actually bought it they decided that Zurich who they had me with at the time wouldn't insure me on it and they'd have to do a mid-term transfer, basically meaning I lost the NCB for the 8 months that policy had been running and ended up with a brand new year long policy with NUD...still the cheapest though so it had to be done :( I had to pay an extra £1250 on top of the refund from the other policy too.

To make it more anoying, Zurich themselves said they would insure me on it, and Audi insurance is Zurich too, they had no problem giving me the complimentary 7 days and quoting me for a full policy. Endsleigh set their own terms apparently :(

Mick.

I was always under the impression that NUD and NU had different underwriters.

EDIT: Also, brokers can negotiate deals due to the amount of policies they will be starting with said insurer. Think of it as bulk discount.

Car insurance has baffled me for years now. With my car, getting older and having more no claims bonus has meant that I have been getting charged more each year. I would then swap to a cheaper one only to find they would increase the next year. Finally gave in, played swapsies with darling and insured her car under me for peanuts and got fluffy insured under her with Diamond for £450, less than half what the others wanted for renewal......

Yup - the thing I hate is the coverage of optional factory fitted options.

A mate has to be careful with his Z insurance to make sure it will cover the factory option GT pack and the imported replacement exhaust.
With it the insurance company would only see it as a standard Z and not cough up for the additional GT pack!

that is stupendously stupid!

I had a laugh and tried a quote, but Privilege do not list the 2007 turbo, so I had to settle for the 05 one (dont know if they are the same). Also the max value entered would only allow 50k. So I had to put that in.
I got a quite respectable £630!

While I was phoning around, very few people would touch the Scooby, but privilege were very accommodating.

May be worth giving them a call?

Yeah, as Endsleiigh always tell me, I'm underwritten by Norwich Union, which is different to Norwich Union Direct. Direct is their front, customer company, the actual NU is only dealt with by insurance companies.

I've been with Endlseigh for quite a while, on and off, and they always get the best quotes for me that are underwritten by NU.

Only problem I have is that they won't add my girlfriend onto my insurance as she's had a claim and a conviction, and I've had an accident. So as far as NU is concerned two under 25s with stuff is a big liability....yet I'm on her insurance with DirectLine and her insurance is well cheap.

Insurance is one of those strange, annoying, and needed things.

All dealings with NU I've had have been poor. They put a claim I made against me and I lost 4 years no claims based on my description alone, without hearing from the 3rd party etc. I was fuming and I never got anywhere with it. I had to take it on the chin and they let the 3rd party claim false injuries while they were at it.

Stupid company with offshore call centres to boot. Churchill have always been great for me. Not the cheapest but the best service overall.

NU are pants they've never quoted me happy

i was putting in some quotes a few years back and found i couldnt get insured on a diesel but they'd insure me on the turbo petrol vesion which was more expensive and twice as quick.

Adding myself to my girlfriends insurance drops her premium by £100 from £478 to £378. Then added my father too and it dropped a further £30. Was confused at the time but obviously happy :)

Insurance can be strange at times.

Yeah NU put a claim in for me when I said specifically 'I AM NOT MAKING A CLAIM', which as fine, come renewal when my insurance skyrocketed. I managed to sort it out after many, many phonecalls, then I switched to Endsleigh as they were cheaper. I've had a bit of hassle with Endsleigh, but nothing much worth worrying about.

For the most part they've been great, but then I haven't made a claim or anything with them. Plus they use UK call centers only, so I they people I talk to understand me and I understand them...handy.
I also always have a laugh with the people on the phone, as they are normally decent people.

I'm with Admiral at the moment and the latest renewal came through at £690 for a group 17 car. I simply phoned them up and asked them to do better and it came down to £604!! So why did they want to charge me nearly an extra £100 for?

On the same underwriter as before, this time you'll have a new one, or a renegotiated deal with the original one.

Easy profit?

A bit OT here but could someone shed some light on this one. I was getting a quite on an Integra type R more thn came out with £390, cracking price. Decided to check for a Civic type R and the quote was over £900  Any idea why there would be such a huge hike, if anything I thought the teg would cost more.

I think a lot of the time it's down to statistics. Even if the car is considered not as 'hot' as the other one it maybe that it has been nicked more times or the standard security is not as good.

Lots of chavs buying and crashing CTR's? Also as there are more CTR's than ITR's more are stolen possibly?

I did a quote a couple of years ago on a Civic Vti, best quote so far was around the £1000 mark, I phoned NUD and they came back with £3300!

Needless to say I wasnt happy.

800 sounds good to me especially if thats normal milage. I've paid similar for a 70bhp motor before :o
Outside the obvious factors, biggest influence I think is how they class your postcode and for a car like this, if they actually decrease for a garaged car or not.
My neighbour isnt allowed to park his porsche outside his own house otherwise he has no right to claim.

CTR is one of the countries most stolen cars I think
