How does this compare to the Powercolor Radeon R9 290 which is available a fair few quid cheaper?

Horses for courses... Red or Green! You can mine on the AMD's and they're a bit cheaper with slightly higher power requirements... Nvidia will run cooler and quieter with slightly more bang for buck.
