Hi Guys,

With most games I install I get crc errors and I can't work out what the problem is? For example when installing games it might get most of the way through the installtion or just get started and I get a crc error.

It happens on either of my optical drives, so i know they are not a fault. Also when I sometimes unzip items I get an error saying the file is corrupt when it is not.

So I ran memtest until level / number 7 with no errors. It ran for like 1 hour (do i need to do it longer?)

I have 4gb of ocz ram, funny thing is if i remove 3 gig the games install with no errors, so it seems the memory is at fault? but no errors on memtest? my system consists of:

Vista 64
abit pro
4gb ocz ram
q6000 at 3.6
8000 gtx at 650/1050

I can play games etc with no issues, so don't really know what the next best move is?

HELP:confused:

could be the ram. best to let memtest loop all test 2-3 times. could also be a duff cable between cd/mobo or hdd/mobo. OR chipset failing somehow under the added load of 4 sticks. try instalign with each stick in turn. then try with loosened timings/lower mem frequency and slowly wind up to usual from there.

if you have an overclocked rig (think you have) take it back to stock and check the memory.

The corrupt archive problem also points to a memory issue. (the archive is checksummed at the end of the process and it looks like it is summing wrong even though the archive is ok)

I think it looks like some slight timing issue. if you want to keep memory running at speed the memtest at least a few times, also stress test using orthos or similar for 10+ hours.

also what timings are you forcing when adding more than one stick? be methodical, check each stick, check pairs, only change one thing at a time.

memory issues can take a while to track down but it should be determinable.

good thing though is you have a lifetime warantee with ocz. I've used this and have only good things to say about there customer service.

Thanks for all the replys guys - I will try all suggestions to see if they fix the problem. I have left all memory related features in the bios at auto apart from the voltage.

My memory frequency is 400Mhz
Cas 5 clocks (auto)
Ras Cas delay 5 (auto)
Ras Precharge (auto)
Cycle time (15)

Does the above seem fairly standard guys? I don't think it is a HD issue as it happens if i try and install on two seperate HD's, but thanks for the suggestion.

Could it be because, the system is overclocked, and thus causing some errors during installations and unzipping files.

I ran Orthos for 5+ hours and then turned the PC off as temps started to worry me, could the system be unstable?

Cheers guys, am still fairly new to all this;)

I tend to run orthos for at least 10+ hours. 24 makes me happy.

I'm not too sure about clocking intel kit, but relaxing some timings might help, also using that Mem speed, what does that work out at when compared to the rated speeds?

again, run it all at stock speeds, if it works at stock, the problem is an unstable overclock and you have some work to do to find out a stable clock.
