Just checked the oil level on the car and it was covered in a creamy sludgy oil  ... looks a little worrying, the cars a 94 fiesta and is running normal :( any ideas? is it due condensation/water etc?

its the head gasket I'm guessing, can be caused by loads of things but overheatings always a good culprit on older cars, tbh get a quote from a garage before getting it done, but unless you have a frendly enginear to do it with you at cost then your going to have to pay £££

the creamyness is from the hot water in the engine getting into the oil supply

Any water loss? My mates Fiesta does this, just condensation proably mate. If there aint any water loss dont worry, all the breathers unblocked? When was the last oil change?

Thought so, the garage i go would do it.. but i dont really want to spend any more cash on it. Its always in and of there recently.

Not really monday and friday i go up and down the motorway (60miles/day) only on the weekends it does short journeys, but ive been doing that for a while just shocked me this morning when i went to do the weekly top up :o it was creamy.

SgtTupac ive not noticed any water loss, cant remember when the oil was last changed ill check when i get back home

Could be water somehow got in, but that is the head gasket symptoms.
What about the coolant, is that creamy too?

it is in time, but when I had this go on my old nova, cos me parts as my m8 showed me how to do it, luckly the head didn't need skimming (sometimes a blown gasket will mark it)
iirc its over £300 for the time if you get a garage to do it for you.

think its shown in the haynes manule

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's cold at the moment and the engine is hot so it's going to get a lot of moisture in places like the breather tube and down the dipstick. Take the oil filler cap off and there will probably be a little in there too. If it's caked all over the rocker gear then maybe bad news, but if it's not getting through coolant or oil and if there's no oily smoky smell in the exhaust it's most probably fine.

This is usually a sign of a HG on it's way out or gone. But, the Fords of that era are renowned for this (OHV) so don't worry too much unless the car is overheating or the blower is blowing cold.

The HCS engine used on the Mk3 Fiestas was reknown for building up mayonaise in the rocker cover, though if the oil has emulsified it's possibly more than just short journeys causing the problem.

If you haven't had to top the water up at all, then just get the oil changed, it won't be doing the engine any good with that muck being pumped around it.

oil change, if it happens again and if your rad waters dissapearing somewhere then I'd get it checked out.

I had a 93 1.3 fiesta and that had white sludge in the breathers its a well known problem as the crossflow engine does breath quite heavily and they get blocked up. Watch your water level if it doesnt move don't worry about it. I even cleaned the breathers and mesh filter out but it still came back after a while.
