Create the best Hi fi you can for £400

Sorry mate but it's a complete waste of money to get someone else to 'spec' you a hi-fi simply becuase it's all down to a matter of taste. What sounds good to me may well sound rubbish to you.

I suggest you get down to a hi-fi store with some cds and demo a load of kit within your budget. That way you can see if Amp A + Speakers B = a good sound.

Also, getting all the same brand stuff isn't always the best thing to do as a different manufactures amp may well suit the presentation of anothers speakers.

Finally, people are always upgrading so you can be sure to find some bargains on popular auction sites.

I got me a second hand Cambridge A5 as aforementioned above (£65) with some second hand Eltax III speakers (£35) and they work a treat with X-Fi.

My point being you don't need to spend hundreds to get a sweet soundin' system. That money could go to a nice holiday perhaps. :)

Would you get this Technics Hi-fi which has everything minus a turntable

or

This tangent system with floor standing speakers which is missing the cassette and turntable?

wouldn't touch either of them with a barge poll, as said above if you're budgeting £400 then proper seperates ( second hand/ex demo ) will get you a system 1000x better than anything from the shop you have linked from.

Ok spent £399 :)

Got the Cambridge audio Azur 340A, 340C and 340T along with an Eltax tape deck. Also some Gale speakers(can't remember the model right now)

So the main problem i'm having now is, How do I connect the speaker cable to the amp?

On the back of the amp you unscrew a knob which reveals the hole in which you insert the cable but once the cable is in you can't screw the knob back in.

On the speakers it's much simpler as you have a side hole in the knob to insert the cable.

Help please :(

It should definately screw back up, my mate has that amp. Push the screwtop down over the wire, til its on the rails, then screw it back up hard ;)

Its best not to use an EQ, although theres probably treble and bass on the amp, or use a software one. Good music and good sound systems shouldnt need to much EQ though, as its done when its being recorded
