I want to make a clonezilla carbon copy of a harddrive in an old computer that is running a epos software called innopos.

The software isn't supported anymore and not available anywhere (we have no disk or anything).

So I know I can use clonezilla to make a carbon copy... but this will only work if the computer uses the same motherboard, ram ect when its restored correct?

Is is possible to protect myself from hardware failiure with a backup image as well?

Or would I be best trying to find a couple of spare parts that are the same?

You could use WINPE, ImageX / GImageX and Sysprep to create a hardware independant sysprepped .wim image. That is what I do at work anyway

convert to a vmware virtual machine and run it on vmware player. Vmware player will work on pretty much any windows install and can easily be moved. Also allows use in vsphere if the company ever went that way.

we have a few vm copies of some old machines we cannot find disks for. works a treat.
