Creating a backup

I have a 320gb seagate free agent external HD that i'd like to use to backup my files from my internal drive. is there a way of doing this automatically?

Take a look at Microsoft's Synctoy, you'll need to launch it manually but once it's set up it'll maintain an exact copy of the selected directories, only copying the changed files.

If Vista you will need grab SyncToy 2.0 Beta.

There are quite a few freeware utilities to do this, look at the following:

Allway Sync, Karen's Replicator, GoodSync, EZback-it-up, and SyncBack Freeware in the General Utilities And Other Applications section...
