Hi all

I have a Windows Live account with a @live.co.uk address. I can add an Outlook alias to this account with my chosen address. However, when I delete this alias and try to set up a brand new account with my chosen Outlook address, it tells me the address is already in use and to pick a different one. How is this possible when I've just removed the alias with that address? I want the former alias address to be set up as a brand new account with no association to my former Live account.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Many thanks

M

The Live account is linked purely so that if anyone emails it, it will also appear in your Outlook inbox. The address is already in use, by yourself.

As I understand it, after you delete an alias (or a primary account) it takes 30 days before the address becomes available for re-use, so you'll have to wait that long before you can create a new account with the old address.

Don't forget that once it's been freed up, you'll need to move fast as the address will be free for anyone to grab - obviously, if your previous alias was "[email protected]" you stand more chance of losing it than if you were "[email protected]". It might be an idea to set up a calendar reminder for 30 days from the deletion time, particularly if you have a nice personalised address that you don't want to lose, as opposed to something like "[email protected]".
