creating windows install partition problem

Not sure if this is a problem with my ssd or with windows in general...

I have 2 different ssd drives, 1 seems to take windows installs without a problem, the other gets to the drive / partition selection screen and gives me this wonderfully vague error..

I have gone through all the hoops that i can find to get it to work but non seem to work on this particular drive..

(mainly using diskpart to clean and then reformat a new system partion)

I have tried Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 installers and all seem to give me the same error... (all installed using a new sandisk usb3 stick)

the drive works fine, it does not have any errors or faults when tested..


I never used to have this error but it started coming up much more often on mine and other PCs i have built

So basically i was looking to find out if this is a windows problem or a drive problem?
 
first off i would disconnect the second SSD if your doing a windows install on to a different one as there is a chance files may get stored on the second SSD as well.

once disconnected try again and if you get the same error click on the "drive options (advanced) and delete all partitions and re create them and format.
 
Yep, always do installs with only 1 drive connected (that pic is just for the error)

my normal approach is to delete all old partitions then let windows do the rest, which has always worked in the past

i cant remember if i have come across this either but in the BIOS set the SSD you want windows on as your first boot device and when the PC boots up do you have the option to select a boot device?

with my motherboard i can press F2 for bios for F8 for boot menu, from here i can select my USB stick and then still keep my SSD as my first boot device.
