Creative after X-fi

Any word yet on the next line to come out? Thinking about the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=SC-045-CL&groupid=701&catid=11&subcat= on this week only. However I'm guessing something new should be out soon?

Since that helmet has been ruining this thread I though I'd try and get it back on track.

No official word on the next line of Creative sound cards. Not worth waiting for the next one so now's as good a time as any to get one. They are well worth it if you game a lot.

Just be aware some (many) users have problems with them and their drivers. In particular, 8800, Vista, 4Gb Ram, certain mobo chipset users.
What are your specs?
EDIT: I see you specs now. All least you don't have too much Ram. Worth a checking the forum a bit more to see how your styem lines up. You may well be fine still.

The problem occurs on xfi's without the 64mb of 'xram'.

The gamer should be a good buy and last for some time to come. (as long as you dont move to 4gb)
If you want to avoid driver and general issues, it seems buying a card with the xram pays off. The fata1ty seems to fit the job.

If you try find that hardcore site that mods the cards and covers in some special treated paper after swapping DAC's and CAP's you will see they claim the Gamer has cheaper CAP's that the Music, they advise the Extreme Music every time, the 2MB normal Ram, on any these cards is the issue though (think NF4 had major issues with them), the cards with 64MB of X-Ram are ok so far. :)

I had problems in my rig, i had two Extreme music cards that refused to sork in my rig, but swapping them out for a Fatality solved the issue totally. The fatalitys can be had fairly cheap 2nd hand - i only paid £65 for mine off the MM :)

I had both, never had trouble with X-FI EM as was not on NF4, the Fatal1ty sound so much better for some reason esp BASS.

I got that Champion Pro one but before it was sold here, with 3rd party app its great for controling all media on PC with the remote as Creatives use of it sucks. :)

What app do you use for the remote mate?

Helmutcheese - what on earth does this youp-pax .ISO have to do with a X-Fi 2? I'm sure you have a love for chinese school boys but that leap is a leap too far. You did the initial "" so as far as I'm concerned you

a) started it
b) are the bigger troll by far

Although I never tire of laughing at people like you so don't let me stop you getting your purdy pink panties in a twist.

Robbie, do you want a set of my daily contact lenses ?, look at my post no7, then post no9 and tell me where the roll eyes are 1st, even though your stirring up trouble as it is over.

Anyhow its over, I did the right thing and reported, I also invited Classic Leon here, but prob take days to get regged.

Now back to helping which this forum should be about.

@ MeatLoaf, I find to make the X-Fi really livable with I use 2apps.

http://www.freewebs.com/spectra9/xfmc.html

Really cool once set up and no more manually changing modes to game or listen to music or movies.

AND

http://melloware.com/products/intelliremote/

Really great. control most music apps with it as Creatives is basic and bloatwate inc the Entertainment Centre (wont work with USA cards or IR Receivers).

There is a donation of $10 to get fully working 1x only, full updates forever after that, and nice peeps hand in profiles for like PowerDVD, NeroShowtime, Winamp etc etc (all examples).

I can sit back now with TV-OUT and not have to try use my mouse as a remote for video. :D

thx some nice links/info there

I didnt even bother with my creative remote control, its so nasty that remote doesnt feel right in the hand, feels like £2 plastic, even the layouts not so good.

I prefer the look/feel of Microsofts MCE remote but still aint using that either.

8800GTX has no full screen video mirroring so life is hard with Dual View, and continuely drag and drop media player to second display....

But that link for that xfi mode changer looks a godsend !

Use VLC Player, once you drag it to TV, it will remain there until you drag back to Monitor, even if you have switched back to Single view or rebooted PC.
I simply leave VLC as my external player as right now I cant use it as its on my TV and TV-OUT is off and in Single View.

You also get some nice skins and can play back nearly any movie with its internal codecs inc low CPU use on HD like H/X264.

P.S the 4 Scroll Wheels are a PIA as you move them by mistake and turn EAX on during a movie etc, well set funstion as nothing with the app above, make sure you kill Creatives startup entry so it wont control at same time if you want to do this though.

Also wish the guy was aroung that made the mdoe changer, it got 1 tiny bug where it can give you 100% CPU use when swapping modes and stick there, I have had that happen once in 1 year of use, it is a Godsend.

Cheers for the info im aware of that work around, can be done with plenty media players, I do use Classic media player and VLC as my main ones also GOM has plenty features including display to 2nd screen.

Sadly im forever alternating between watching my stuff on the TFT, while others in the room watch on the big screen so it doesnt quite work as well for me.

Think ill just go mad and eventually build a dedicated HTPC with remote.... think its needed ;)
