Ok, some people just like me have been waiting for this since the NF2 soundstorm motherboards had it. I bought a load of surround sound equipment just for this feature and can't use it nowadays with my current fatal1ty so is being used with the plasma downstairs instead. I would dearly like to hook my pc up to the plasma and use proper surround sound again as that would be awesome :D

Creative finally do dolby digital live 5.1 which includes putting all the eax effects etc over that standard :D

Dolby digital live 5.1 via optical

Sound card product manager from Creative Labs Europe has confirmed that X-Fi PCIe 1X Fatal1ty Pro card indeed supports Dolby Digital live 5.1 over the optical port.

This is the first creative card to support this very nice and neat feature. The card supports Dolby Digital live encoding and you can send good X-Fi and EAX powered sound in Dolby digital to your Dolby digital 5.1 compliant decoder, all via Optical cable.

This is something that you will get if you are a high-end sound freaks and it is something that we really missed from the previous generations.

This is something that we have been waiting from the Nforce 2 Sound storm audio times and Creative finally decided to offer

Why am I not surprised it is only on the top model though :(

Makes me wonder if they will release a driver *ahhhahah ahaha hahah hahahahahahahah* *cough* for the on pci version?

Wouldn't surprise me. It's already been done by modders and Asus are finally giving Creative some competition in the gaming soundcard market.

Didnt some guy on the creative forums already unlock this feature for the current X-fi cards? Im pretty sure you dont need to buy the new card. just used the modified drivers

It's unlocked already? cool. My PCI Fatal1ty FPS may be worth keeping then :)

: I thought he only unlocked the features that were removed in Vista drivers? Anyone got a link saying DD Live (real-time encoding) works on the x-fi's along with EAX over DD Live?

Why is this any different to just using a 'pass through' straight to your amp and letting your amp encode it?

Doing that I've had DD 5.1 and DTS from my cheap creative X-FI PCI-e since it was released...

yes, thats what DDLive is all about :) it'll take a multi channel analogue source (from games for example) and encode that into a Dolby Digital stream. this is different from being able to take the DD/DTS soundtrack from a dvd, which is already encoded, and using 'passthru'

Yeah, that's what I wanted to check as I loved DD Live :D I bought a theatre system just to have it with my NF2 board and was gutted when I could no longer use the £250 of audio stuff I bought for games.

Thanks for clearing that up. I will take a look at that info/download later as at work.
