Ive had my GD580s for ages now and used to use them with the digital link to my sound card however I lost those cables and now im forced to use analog (so the only thing going into my Decoder is the DIN/power)

Can anyone tell me what cables I'd need to buy to get things working through digital again as from what I can tell digital sound be better quality than analogue? I've got no manual or instructions so i'm a bit stuck

' Toslink ' ,or optical, cable from soundcard to decoder back is what you'll need.

Digital sound vs analogue sound, is not a non starter, as there is no such thing as digital sound. All sound is analogue, digital is the data or information before it is converted into analogue. Using a digital connection to a sound device, the speakers decoder device will process the sound. When analogue is used, the sound card will process the sound.

I notice you have an X-Fi Xtreme Music. Do you have the Dolby Digital Live and DTS Connect software pack?

Thanks for the diagrams!! So I think I just need a mono to RCA (male)?

Cant see any on OCUK but found some cheap ones, 6.35mm 1/4" Mono Jack to RCA Phono Lead Cable - 1.8m nickel plated, will these do?

Yep I think so but they're not creative drivers (due to a Win 7 64 bit issue) I don't really watch DVDs on the PC

DDL and DTSC pack isn't really intended for DVD, as Dolby/DTS is passed on from the DVD to an external decoder via the digital connection on all sound devices with SPDIF. DDL/DTSC are real time 5.1 encoders intended for game use.

Without DD/DTS, audio data passed via digital, is stereo. DDL/DTSC encodes any audio to 5.1, which is then sent to the decoder as 5.1. If you have the game's audio set to 5.1 speakers, DDL/DTSC will encode all 6 channels to 5.1, and then pass that to the decoder. Without DDL/DTSC, it is passed on as stereo, and then upmixed to 5.1.

If you are using modified drivers, then the DDL/DTSC software might have been enabled, but you might still need a license key to activate it. Normally, for anyone with Xtreme Music/Gamer, and some others, the software pack needs to be purchased from Creative's US store. The Titanium upwards, comes with the DDL/DTSC pack.

Do you have the I/O module, or a the X-Fi front bay live drive? Unless of course there is a version of the Xtreme Music that has an optical/coaxial port that I am unaware of. Creatuve have so many versions of their cards lol.

There is a switch within the control panel that allows me to change the MIC port to become Digital I/O, I have had it working that way before but recently lost the cables, Id just like to use them again and restore some functionality to the decoder really.

I see, sounds like you have the same Xtreme Music I do. I am not aware there is any other version, but Creative has a habit of releasing many flavours of the same card.

Do you still have this?
