Creative Sound Blaster X7 overview.

I currently own a Cambridge Audio Dac Magic Plus. Is the X7 a significant improvement over that, or pretty much on a par?

I don't have a quality separate mic (just the one thats part of a gaming headset) but the X7 has its own beam forming mic built-in at the front.

yes it has a mic input on the front for those who use them.

It basically does what many dac's don't which is Microphone support completely!

I couldn't find the physical dimensions on the website, if you still have it could you post a pic with something like a 330mml drinks can or your fav beer next to it for comparison please? Or simply measure it up

I do love the colour scheme, would look awesome next to my Midas

Awesome mate thanks, smaller than I had in my head.

I'd seriously consider this but I see it out of stock and I can't see the speaker bundle version. Any clue when it might be available as a bundle? Oh and can you choose the colour of the speakers, as I like the ones they show with the white version as opposed to the black ones, but with the black/gold unit.

Personally, no.
If it came with the upgraded power supply as standard and was about £250 id snap it up.

is this product a candid admission, that the main value in sound cards over the last 10 years has been amplification of a headphone socket?

Most people who bought a good soundcard still use it. not something you need to change.

but this is a lot more than a soundcard it's more like a smart solution with the benefits of a soundcard.
