Credit Card for work

I'm away with work and we have to pay for it and then claim it back etc. What's the best credit card people can recommend that benefits me etc?

I don't use credit cars otherwise, but £200 - £500 hotel bills take their toll on the bank account etc.

I am now using a shell citicard for all purchases, including thousands in work related expenses.

It offers:

- 1% cashback on all purchases (the till receipt doesn't show this obviously, so its free cash if you are purely tunnelling claimable expense through it)

- 6% cashback on all shell fuel for the first 60 days (i claim fuel too, so more free money!)

- 3% cachback on shell fuel thereafter.

Best card on the market assuming you use fuel.

A cashback card of some description, obviously.

Amex Platinum is good for 3 months and then the cashback can be beaten unless you spend over ~£14,000 a year on the card.

Egg Money card is worth a look, 1% cashback but they often give low limits as it's designed to be pre-paid rather than a credit card as such.

Shell Mastercard from Citi is also good as Jez has explained IF you buy fuel from Shell - otherwise it's pointless as you can't redeem the cashback.

Any rewards type card is rubbish compared to the above, so the Tesco clubcard credit card, Nectar AmEx, Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo etc. are all pointless as they pay less and it's not even real money you can spend!

Just had a look at my egg money card and they appear to be doing 2% cash back at shell untill March '09.

Think I'll have to look at the Egg card. Was tempted with the first direct gold card as i bank with them, but can't see any benefits.

I use a pre-pay mastercard for work, when my expenses are paid I just load them onto the card again. No interest, missed payments or hassle, they only charge you if you use a cash machine.

Well that's silly - the pre-pay card must have cost you to obtain in the first place too!

No interest? Pay the Credit Card off in full and you won't pay any.

Missed payments? Set up a direct debit if remembering to pay the bill is that much of a problem

Hassle? Surely topping up a silly pre-paid card is more hassle?!

You're potentially missing out on some easy money!

It's £10,000 for the higher rate of cashback. Works out at an average of just under £200 per week, which isn't too difficult to hit.

Yes, but you only get paid 0.5% on spend up to £5,000, so unless you spend over £14,000 per annum a flat 1% card beats it. At least that's my understanding of it.

Explain to me what the point of this is when free credit cards offer cashback and no upfront payment?

Well it can depends on individual circumsatnces. In my case my credit card has a pretty high balance and my credit score is pants at the moment.
My company don't give corporate cards but they gave me a £2k float which I put straight onto my prepay and use that solely for work. When my expenses are then paid I just load back onto the card.
I know its not simple but not everyone can get or wants another credit card.

Yes of course, you are right. (except it is 0.5% up to £3500)

I blame Amex for their poor explantion.

[Edit]If my maths are correct you need to spend £13,500 for the Amex card to be worth it.

That is just daft! It's no better than just paying for everything with your debit card!!!

Whoops, you're right - it is up to £3500. Point still stands though :D
