Yeah 1000s of people don't cancel and think they were "tricked" - to be fair Experian and similair don't make it easy to cancel but last time I used them it was fairly obvious to anyone with any amount of intelligence that it was a contract and you'd be charged on an ongoing basis if you didn't cancel within 14 days. Personally I don't think it should be allowed tho as they are preying on the sort of people who won't notice :S
Credit score/file means nothing tho, some places won't even touch someone who has any kinda debt or repayment issues and some companies will actually prefer people who have some minor credit slipups over people with spotless records.
