Cricket: England v West Indies - Test Series **Spoilers**

Really nice retrospective of Bill Frindal by TMS during the lunch break. I'm not sure if it will be on the podcast but I urge anyone who has enjoyed TMS over the years to check it out.

I really like the sound of the Windies' 6'7" off-spinner. They keep joking about him looking more like a 95MPH fast-bowler. Is he as imposing as he sounds?

Oooh, it's the first referral. This ought to be interesting...

I have recording of the TMS thing and will upload it if people are interested. I would imagine it would be on podcast. Hearing Blowers again was good!

What's going on with Blowers? Is he still part of the TMS team but just not travelling overseas? I miss the dear chap.

And can anyone explain this whole referral system? Is it akin to the Hawk-Eye challenge system in tennis where you lose one of your two challenges for being incorrect?

He only does a few of the tests in the UK I believe.

Yeah i think thats how the challenge system works

Yet again Pietersen saves our sorry asses. I think it's becoming safe to say that if Pieterson flops with the bat, the whole England innings score collapse. He missed a century, so what? There will be many more in his bright future.

I'm sorry, but you're wrong. If we're going to have to rely on Pietersen ability with the bat, as you point out, then Pietersen's going to have to learn some self control and play more for the team than for KP.

He seemed to be in control and on the verge of rescuing England's fortunes on day one. Instead he got himself out with a silly shot and we're now left scratching around with the tail-enders.

The point is that by missing out on a century the England team, not just Kevin Pietersen, missed out on making something of an otherwise sorry start to the test. It's not all about one man, something KP really ought to have learnt by now.

Eh? Sorry but that is a load of rubbish, have a go at Cook, Bell, Strauss. KP has saved this innings so thank him for getting 97 without him we would be in a messy situation, dont put the blame on him for god sake.

Rubbish.

Pietersen could still be in and scoring runs. Instead he's out and sitting in the pavilion. If he was walking out to bat this morning we'd all be moaning about the rest of the pillocks who threw away their wickets rather than focusing on England's best chance of making something of yesterday being thrown away in a moment of stupidity by KP.

It could have been 197 scored across yesterday and today and we'd be in a much better position as a result of it. God knows he's about the only person in the team capable of doing that, but he's not going to get the chance now he's not at the crease.

He's easily the most talented and dangerous player that England have got. Why he can't just show a little self-restraint from time-to-time I will never know.

What good is Pietersen to England when he's sat in the pavilion? None. He's only dangerous when he's out at the crease, scoring runs.

I'm not going to argue that our batting is anything other than dire, but cricket is a team game. If Pietersen is so happy about his form and the way he scores runs, why isn't he scoring more of them and putting the pressure on those who aren't performing? I'd more than happily moan about the opening batsmen, but that's pointless. They don't even seem to have the capability to score the runs we need. Pietersen does, but the point still stands that he could and should have done so much more.

If all KP can do is score an explosive sub-hundred score, then he's not a weapon. He just seems to be all or nothing, which doesn't do the England team any favours.

Sheesh. You leave the house for an hour and all hell breaks loose.

This Benn chap sounds like he's having the game of his life.

If he had 101 and then got out like that, there would have been big praise for peitersons batting performance. Yes he got out, but its not as if hes the only batsman to have got out in that vein (think tendulker and the 90's). Much rather he get out playing his way to 100 then defending his way to 100.
Also your point about sub hundred scores, please name the last time he achieved a similar score, as far as i remember peitersons conversion in test match cricket is up there with the very best(15 hundreds and 11 50's). So as posted above praise peiterson as it was a good innings, and look at other players in side e.g. bell, collingwood

Sorry I just dont agree with this Pietersen bashing crap at all. Play for the team? He scores more runs than anyone else. If he wasn't a team player he'd tell the England team to F off and go collect his IPL money.

To be honest I wish all the other batsmen were like Pietersen, selfish and egotistical, we'd score a lot more runs and win a lot more games that way.

I'll take a selfish player who scores runs over 'team players' who score FA.

Be it 97 or be it 101, Pietersen's dismissal was a waste of a potentially day-saving innings. The point was that he got out by playing a stupid shot when he was rattling along quite nicely and the potential score he could have laid down, not the fact he got out before his century.

You say you'd rather he gets out playing 'his' way to 100 than defending his way to 100? I'd prefer he was out to a piece of amazing bowling rather than an error of judgement on his part.

My point about sub-hundred scores was referring to Fothsn's insistence that KP's 97 was worth thanking him for. If that's all that's expected of him then what's the point?

So as posted above praise peiterson as it was a good innings, and look at other players in side e.g. bell, collingwood
Show me where I've said KP's innings was a bad one? I haven't. I've simply implied that his innings ending the way it did was a huge let-down when he was showing so much potential at the crease.

Haha, nice try, Monty. You cheeky little bugger!

Well, that's the innings over. Nice to see England crawl over the 300 mark but kudos to Benn for another great performance with the ball.

Now to see what our bowlers can do to the Windies.
