Cricket Revolution - NEW Online Cricket Game Developed EXCLUSIVELY for the PC

Do NOT BUY Ashes Cricket Untill you have seen this.

I was sooo close to buying Ashes Cricket but it can **** right off now. This looks just what I was looking for, it has a hint of Lara about it.

The game has been developed from the ground up for the PC Exclusively.

It is from a new developer based in Pakistan named Mindstorm so im sure they know their Cricket.

Here is an interview with the CEO:

He seems to know his stuff.

The game has single player AND a HUGE Online Multiplayer component, again developed from the ground up for the PC.

The game is coming to STEAM on the 18th September 2009.

STEAM Page:

The .PDF manual for the game is here:

The website is great, can see it integrating into the game really well.

You can see other online as they are being played.

You can also create your own "Cricket Club". OcUK 20/20 anyone?

Im giving my money to these guys, hopefully they do well.

BUY THIS GAME, if only to show Codemasters they fail. This game looks like Lara to me. It shows LOTS of promise.

EDIT:

Cricket Revolution (BETA) - Extended Highlights

Looks good.

And from Pakistan? Am I dreaming or something? I did not know they had software development companies at this level.

Great. Looking forward to it.

Don't buy it in place of a game showing footage of a batsmen letting one go that is clearly hitting middle and leg and a batsmen standing a yard outside leg stump trying to defend a straight ball with half a yard of daylight between the bat and leg stump?

I'll give it a go when it comes out and if it reviews well. Hopefully we can buy it direct from Pakistan for a fair price rather than the likely Steam price. Until such time I think I'll play Ashes.

Looks great, but why do codemasters fail? Ashes has had some great reviews.

Ok, maybe I am not Codemasters biggest fan anyway and maybe, MAYBE, Ashes is an improvement over the recent Lara games but at the end of the day, the PC port is not that great in all honesty.

At least these guys have made a good attempt. You saw the community features they have implemented on their website. Stats galore, you can even see scores from other matches that are being played.

At the end of the day, I support inidie developers like this, they have the balls to go for something different.

I can forgive some errors if there is light at the end of the tunnel. Codemasters have had sooo long to get it right and even with this being their THIRD attempt at recreating the success of Lara '96, they STILL fail.

I am not saying this game is perfect, but as an Indie developer, I think they will listen to their community more.

Look at the last 2 Lara games.. FULL of bugs yet Codemasters do nothing about it. Hardly a company I wish to give my money to and I only would have fell for it AGAIN as they were the only company with this type of product.

Hopefully we can buy it direct from Pakistan for a fair price rather than the likely Steam price. Until such time I think I'll play Ashes.

Buying from STEAM will be supporting the Dev as it is exclusive to STEAM as they are self publishing. Valve are not in the business of ripping devs off, without devs, Valve would go bakrupt. Dont bite the hand that feeds you and all that.

This is why I am excited about this, I see this as a beginning of a revolution for gaming with more and more devs self publishing with no Publisher ripping them off and dictating when/if they release patches etc.

It does look really nice, but my only worry from watching the trailer (haven't watched the interview yet as i don't have sound here) is that the ball speed seems quite slow. Looks like a batsman with a small amount of skill will be able to time and pick his shots perfectly; unless they implement a very very small timing window to solve this, i think it could be a batting game and a horror to bowl.

Will definitely keep my eye on this though :)

Roid, I fully agree with you there.

The batting system to me looks almost identical to the Original Brian Lara game and to be fair, yes, bowling was harder than batting BUT once mastered and you knew each players style, you could do some damage with your bowlers.

I think it is going to be slightly more Arcade than Sim BUT with the Online Multiplayer feature set it has, I dont think this will be a bad thing and to be fair, Brian Lara '96 with a similiar control set is considered to be the best Cricket game EVER by some.

Also, the guy does say the development team is full of Cricket fans so I think it will be allright. I dont imagine a Pakistani developer doing ANYTHING to make cricket look bad.

Why are the majority of the dismissals down to a batsman trying to play a forward defensive or a leave down completely the wrong line?

I originally knocked it for that, but now I'm thinking maybe it's just because they wanted to show some wickets being taken and did it on two player. The ball needs to be sped up like said above, but it certainly looks like the edges are flying a lot faster than on Ashes.

By it being on steam they are not self publishing - valve are publishing.

Without Devs valve wouldnt go bankrupt, they proved that by generally being around still today, since they didnt have revenue from other developers on steam for all those years since they infact were a developer themselves, and others published there work.

True they retain a lot more control over their product as valve generally doesnt care after its been released, but to not admit that valve have got their fingers well into the pie is naive.

I refer you to this:

Who does it say the publisher is?

Just because a game is being sold by someone, it does not mean they are publishing it.

Do Direct2Drive publish Mirrors Edge? No, EA do.

The STEAM distribution side of the business would indeed go bust without developers as they would have no games to sell.

Steam was never going to go bust since it was Valves primary method of distribution once established, they could have easily survived without other developers onboard.

Fair enough, it does say they are self publishing, but valve are taking a nice cut of what they are earning lets face it, like the traditional publisher did.

Steam are taking a nice cut of what everyone who buys from them is earning! That's why I wanted it to be purchased from the developer direct, so it would be cheaper. That said, if Steam is sole distributor it might be a fair price anyway as they won't need to keep it above retail price.

Yep, you have hit the nail on the head.

Most games which are Digital download only are normally VERY well priced on STEAM.
