Crikey! Loving the Fabia vRS...

I don't really like it but I think thats more becuase of the type of car it is rather than becuase it's a bad car. They certainly seem to be very well received amongst owners and reviews :)

Plunge taken...falling...

Well, i marched down to the dealer today - fell in love with it.

Test drove it. Fell deeper in love.

Haggled. Fell in love with salesman.

Ive gone for it - in Black Magic with Cruise Control (the car they had had it fitted), its not been registered and they got it in today. One of two, the other of which they had sold an hour before i arrived, they were just putting a sold sign up on it as i arrived...hadnt even put the plastic centre wheel cover things on and they had sold it!

Got a good deal imo, and am dead chuffed - cannot wait to own it, and hopefully let it please me for the next few years...

Now, do i want the paint protection jobby? TSG or something i think its called, like scotchguard but teflon based? You tell me.

being black and prone to stone chips (and if its anything like the CTR, it will get stone chips) id pay the little extra for the protection.

cruise is a must if you do lots of long journeys...

But you find yourself getting frustrated with the people that speed up and slow down, especially ones that overtake you and then slow down on motorways...

nice car tho, skodas are very good now...

:D

Congrats :-)

Black Magic looks good but it's a pain to keep clean. I don't like Red and the Yellow just screams "look at me!" so I opted for Diamond Silver. They really should offer a Blue of some description (VW Jazz Blue and Indigo Blue were really nice).

Cruise is nice - I'd have liked it as license protection. Unfortunately there were none in the country at the time so I would have been a 12 week wait for a factory order which wasn't an option.

The paint protection etc is a nice money spinner for the dealer. You can get the Diamondbrite kits etc off eBay for under £30 and spend a few hours doing it yourself and save a load of money. The light coloured outer section of the seats show up the muck easily so it's worth investing some fabric protection. I used a couple of cans of Scotchguard from the local DIY warehouse - total cost about £6.

Nice one! I own a Red Fab VRS and love it :)

Still entertains me now and still suprises plenty of chavved up VTR's ;)

Thanks for your comments guys. Im really chuffed as many other cars i have bought i always had people taking the biscuit. I have always like to be a little different - and anyone who points and laugh at my Skoda badge can look forward to me pointing and laughing as i speed past them.

As i have never owned a diesel how should i be running it in? Take it easy for the first 1000 or so miles?

Anything else i need to know about owning a Fabby vRS?

Don't forget to post lots of pics when you get it ;) (When are you picking it up?)

I'd say take it easy (below 3,500 rpm) for about 1000 miles just to be sure. I took out a new pre reg one at a dealer, and he just told me to keep it off the redline :D

P.S. Make sure you stick the right nozzle in at the petrol station ;)

eibach springs dont lower it much and sort the handleing out a treat apparently! Im loooking at clior 182s and celica 190's and even vx220's but I cant seem to get these out of my head black magic with a re-map, that would do me!. Got the whole yaer to decide tho! getting a new cartowards the end of the year.

Hi richieboy,
get over to www.briskoda.net they are a really friendly bunch and will answer any questions you have. i bought a black magic vrs last september and has been perfect ever since. i couldnt be more happier with it. go for the cupra intake pipe, green cotton filter and then a jabba remap. lowering springs, front strut brace and rear ARB tighten up the handling. mine is standard and is just right for my motorway driving. i stuck to not revving past 2k for the first 500 miles, occasionally going a little over, then no more than 3k for the next 500 miles. after 1000 miles i drove it like i stole it and have had no problems since. did a mid service oil change about 1k ago and there have been no problems with the car at all.

Happy driving mate, you made a great choice
Rico

Cheers for your comments chaps.

Just sorting out some finance on it now, found a rate of 6.1% which is the lowest i can find, compared to the Skoda Finance 6.9%. Does anyone think it would be a better idea to go with Skoda Finance because it should be easier or would it be better to keep it seperate?

Think im going to go for the paint protection - if i borrow £300 more on a loan it will only add a few quid to my monthly repayment...

Hopefully will be all done by next week - cant wait :D

The only bad point i did notice was a slightly creased passenger side rear seat...it looked like the fabric had been stretched and creased, so pointed that out yesterday and the guy phoned today to let me know they had ordered the replacement seats after i left yesterday and they were fitting them later today - so far im pleased with the service, but they havent got all my money yet! :p

the HP i had on my celica was better than any loan. APR of 4%, no early repayment clause, and no fees to pay.

couldnt really beat that - was going to pay cash outright, but would've been silly with that deal...

That's fine as long as you put the outright cash (if you've got it) to one side. If you can pay it off when it comes to selling time, then there won't be any discrepancies if it's HPi'd or whatever, but a lot of people will walk away if you try and sell them a car with outstanding finance on it.

Not having much luck with loans...tried Alliance and Liecester - was 6.1% on their website, filled out all the online forms and got an email telling me to call them for the decision - its bloomin 12.9%!

I realise i dont have a huge credit history (just a monthly phone contract for the past three years and a store card or so every now and then, but no credit cards) - but im abit annoyed that its more than double the APR quoted on their site...

Going to have to keep looking around, as i really dont want to take it out of my savings

My Fabia VRS is two years old this month - hasn't missed a beat, it's been a fantastic car. The performance and value is amazing - show me another car that cost £10,800 new, gets over 50mpg in all the hardest driving, can cover 0-60 in under 9 sec and apparently has such great residuals that mine could have lost less than £3k in two years from new.

As good as it is though I’m now considering a change but finding it very hard to find anything that comes close. What I’m looking for is a car that is faster without being much less economic and not costing much more. The only thing I can come up with is a two year old Seat Toledo PD150 Sport (maybe a Seat Cupra PD150) or remaping the Fabia! Can only else think of alternatives?
