So whats your most Cringe-worthy clips from TV shows and Movies?

I'm sure a lot of people here FacePalm when it comes to shows trying use technology. Hacking in-particular can be pretty hilarious.

A mate showed me a few clips from the film 'Catwoman' with Halle Berry.
I only found out this film existed over the weekend.

This is just awful:

There was another scene with Catnip which I cant find.

To be fair to Halle Berry, she took it well accepting an award at the Razzies.

Don't get me started. All I will say is that the only films that include hacking that I have seen, that do a good job of it are The Matrix, when Trinity is using NMAP (a network mapping tool) to exploit an SSH bug (which did exist) and Wargames. The worst? Swordfish. Without a doubt. Not only was it just an all round **** movie, but the hacking scene cemented it as the ****tiest movie with a hacking scene.

I think in one of the Matrix parts, Trinity ssh's as root. Who allows ssh -l root?? Duh.

And the bug she was exploiting: http://packetstormsecurity.com/advisories/bindview/adv_ssh1crc.txt that allows remote root.

I don't think it's mandatory to use 2 over 1 is it?

Version 1 has the CRC32 bug which can be exploited to allow remote root access (which is what Trinity is doing in that screenshot above), so while it's not mandatory (and just a proposal by the IETF), it's a given that you should be using 2 if you want a secure system.

Though you're right about them using SSHv1 for the film. What system at that time would have been using it? None. Or very few which had really bad server admins. But it is probably one of the best examples of hacking on screen I've seen and depicts it in a realistic manner when compared to other films. Like Swordfish. Hugh Jackman getting drunk and hacking like he's playing a Chopin piece. The only good thing about that film was Halle Berry's ****.
