Crisis with Crossfire

This did nothing for me.

I have tried many things... there is just no Crossfire optimisation in Crysis as yet full stop.

I run a P35 mobo and when i run one card i get about 2fps more than in xfire, this is down to the xfire on the Blitz running 2x8 where as the single card runs at x16...

This also answers another question i had... what kind of difference would an X38 mobo make with 2 x 16 Pcie slots... i guess its about 2fps in Crysis.

I did some benchmarking with a friend who has 2 x 8800 GTX KO cards against my 2x3870's makes interesing reading...

All maxed out at 1280x1024...

Normal Nvidia - with non supporting SLI drivers - he scored just under 30fps
SLI Beta Nvidia drivers he scored 40fps

3870 with normal drivers - with hotfix overlaid - I scored 23 in xfire and 25 with single card

The rigs were very similar in all other ways.

Si i recon when Xfire comes into play we should get circa 40 -50 fps

Got to wait for either new drivers from ATI or a patch from EA to see it running sweetly.

I dont think crytek are going to give crossfire much support from them. They are very biased with nvida and claim sli is their number 1 priority and dont even menchen crossfire. Let alone crossfirex. Looks like amd are going to have to do it all them selves.

Its annoying that just because a logo is slapped on a game it seems all the bits and pieces like multi card support are done for just one company. I had dual 2900's and ended up selling them as the games i wanted faster performance in at the time never had any crossfire support.

That and dod source seemed to have some weird bug where my framerates would just dive to around 2-3fps then if i looked in another direction they would go up again.

Well it just means buy nvida and you get good support. I dont like how nvida are monopolising the market so much, btu i gues amd would do the same if they could.

I'm not sure this is quite the case... Nvidia have had to work on a solution i.e. beta drivers... and these beta drivers were breaking other games. So Nvidia do not have a solution yet.

It is true that the equivilent Nvidia does beat the 3870 in single card mode... but as yet neither SLI or Crossfire are supported in the game.

I would comment that Other games i have played with the 3870's are flying. UT3, Bioshock and Cod4 seem to be well optimised.

The only problem i have is this...
ATI launched Crossfire as the better dual GPU process because it will work on ANY game without the need for bespoke driver support... Indeed if you search the ATI site you will find some statements and promotial material that says just that...http://game.amd.com/us-en/unlo...d=EBIEA$69408@IEBDACCfor example.

This does not seem to be true anymore... wonder what changed and why they are misleading us?

That's not good .

I've bought a second hd3870 512mb here..as yet not put it into the computer in xfire.

Maybe I should sell it still unopened so I get 'in theory' the best price for it'.

:(

Because ATI can not predict future 3d engines & what developers change in it from game to game even if crossfire worked fine with the raw 3D engine.

I told You about crossfire and Crysis in the other thread....Unfortunatly keep asking You will hear what you want to hear in the end but It will be incorrect :p

Waite for Some game patches or ATI driver magic, the Cards are brand new so is crysis,
You want to know how powerful 3870 crossfie is ?
HL2 EP2 @ 1920X1200 Max inc 8XMSAA 16AF Cat7.11
1 HD3870 min30 max66 AV 44.533
2 HD3870's min56 max112 AV79.56

Thats fantastic scaling getting on for 2X performance

Still want to sell that 2nd Card ?

I have crossfire set-up using 1950 cards and the game wont even load unless I turn off either crossfire or Catalyst AI, I can't have both enabled. I know other people with different ATi cards in crossfire have the same problem, though some people with 2900 cards can have catalyst AI set to standard and it still works. Hopefully a combination of new drivers and patches for the game will fix it somewhere along the line.

Anyway if you are having trouble with crossfire in the game I'd suggest tinkering with the AI settings in the CCC and seeing if that helps at all.

Ok I have said this several times in various threads but I will repeat it 1 last time,

You can get Crossfire to run in crysis but you get much faster and much slower min and max framerates with an overal lower average!
Bottom line it's slower with crossfire on than with it dissabled.

Jakas - you just said you'd tried config files etc .. you didn't say you'd tried my suggestion.

You never know someone might find how to change a setting and it might actually work. ;)

:D:D:D, My friend , I posted about the AFR (Alternate frame render )hack a couple of weeks back !

If I say something it's generally 100% My experience not hearsay from some muppet elsewhere
Config files...well You have read something I said on the problem ;) Yes I was trying to force crysis to use 2 GFX cards, This did not help either, I spent a couple of days on and off trying to sort the problem.

I don't think this one will be a easy fix as far brighter people at Crytek and ATI than little old Me, have not got a handle on it !

sli will work with the next patch out in like a week i beleive. Nvida will make sure of it as they want crysis to be their advertising point for sli. Crossfire will take some time beacuse crytek arn't helping ati on it.
