After a very nearby lightning strike easrly this morning, my old Linksys WAG54G V2 is thoroughly toasted. Took it apart and there are several melted/blown components so it's fit for the bin. But what do I replace it with? I've spent an hour and a half looking around for a suitable replacement, but was hoping to get a bit of guidance here.

Must Have:
  • Wireless 54G or preferably better. Most of my access is via wireless.
  • Preferable a detachable antenna or decent range with a built in antenna. FWIW, the old Linksys was good enough with it's non-removable antenna.
  • Built in modem, i.e. ADSL Router.
  • WPA encryption
  • Four (or more) 10/100 Ethernet ports.
  • Stability/reliability. Very important for me, the Linksys wasn't great, I had to reboot it every couple of weeks, and almost daily during the hotter parts of the summer.
  • Decent port forwarding facility
Would Like:
  • OpenWRT support. I really want to have a play with this, but if a non-supported router has decent/well supported firmware anyway that's ok.
  • USB port(s) for hard drives/printers etc. This is something I would definately use if it was available, but can live without.
I have a budget of £100, or maybe a little more for something special. I like the sound of the Asus routers, which seem to have lots of good reviews but the higher end models with USB etc are difficult to find. Need it ASAP as the Mrs isn't going to put up with the 20meters of Cat5 laying accross the hallway to my old Orego router for very long!

Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, guess I was probably asking too much for £100. Found out earlier that my (1 month old) Digibox/HD recorder and my posh VCR have fried as well. 32" CRT telly seems to have survived which is irritating as it's the only bit I don't like! Ho hum, looks like I might have to make my first ever house insuance claim.
