Criteque My New Build Plan

That is a good idea. I might actually keep my 260 till then.

I'm pretty much sorted then.

Last question - will the 850W Corsair be able to cope with an overclocked i7, 2 graphics cards, 3 HHD's, an SSD AND watercooling?!

I was wanting to be safe hence the 1000W, but if the 850W can easily manage all that?

The 850W should be absolutely fine.

Another reason to get the 850W is that it is newer, better tech. It is up to 90% efficient (80+ Gold rated) and comes with a seven year warranty. Its also more compact than the huge 1000W.

I can't believe you've managed to talk me out one of my staple parts which I had right from the start!

Ok, this is how it looks now, what do you think?!

Looking good there Microwave.
That Corsair HX 850 is a real beast and will run anything you can throw at it.
Speaking of Corsair, personaly I think that ram is overkill.
Go with the Patriot, its like £130 cheeper and will do the same thing.

The RAM is my little personal treat, I desperately want the fan cooler!

Glad everything is ok.

Thanks a lot for you help! I Really appreciate it :)

Yeah the RAM is a overkill - you'll probably only notice like 2% difference or something in performance for a lot of money. You could get twice as much RAM instead if you still had that money allocated to memory?

Yep... High-speed RAM isn't a cost-efficient way of improving performance, especially not with i7. Anandtech did a review where they found practically no performance difference between RAM clocked at 1866Mhz and cheaper 1333Mhz memory with better timings.

My vote is:
Exchange that motherboard for an ASUS Rampage II GENE and save 50 quid then put that money on a 295gtx (its only 50 quid more and you can drop a 2nd in later one).

Since the Gene has a great sound card onboard you don't need that extra sound card so put that money into beer and pizza or grab 12GB ram instead. Ram is super cheap and I grabbed 12gb (a ram drive for swapfile, temp files, internet cache, scratch disk).

OCZ's Vertex (cheap and ninja fast) will be win7 trim compatible soon (read it on their forum today). I couldn't order any in here where I live so I opted for a velociraptor which I'll pick up tomorrow.

For speed I'm setting my Win drive on the velociraptor with a 16k cluster size (I have to set up a separate boot partition at 4k to do this) and that'll help balance the lack of Vertexage.

Ordered this evening! :D

Ended up getting the 1000W supply as it was in deals of the week and a few more Noctua fans.

Should be here Monday!

Build went well! Worked first time! No problems!

Just got round to taking some decent pictures...
