Are they genuinely guilty, or are they just convenient stooges dredged up by the government? Knowing Saudi Arabia, the latter is more likely to be true.

Sounds like Bezos needs to stay out of any Turkish Embassies .... but,
it's intertesting that whatsapp has not sealed loopholes that enable software/spyware (pegassus) to be illicitly loaded on phones, or,
that bezos does not have additional AV spyware on his phones.

So if the press are to be believed and the Saudi's tried to intimidate Jeff Bezos and are proved to have murdered Khashoggi who will bring them to justice or will they get off scot-free because you know oil and what not?
More a case of geopolitics and what not. We have a lot of military contracts and association with the Saudis and we need our own allies in the region, just as Syria and Iran are Russian allies in the region. Our Government and the United States government consider their foreign policy and geopolitical games much more valuable than the lives of those killed by terrorism and terrorists that are linked to Saudi Arabia. I mean, what's a couple of life insurance policies compared to the contract for X number of Western built military jets / tanks and small arms?
The americans are still training their pilots too

His son "allegedly" gave them clemency which dropped the punishment to Life. It's a well know thing out here for this to happen, where the family of the deceased get "looked after" (not just financially) by the family of the offender if they agree to some form of clemency in the sentencing.

It's kind if medieval which comes as no real surprise;
Offender pays blood price to family of person he killed as an alternative to himself being killed.
I expect we had a similar law round about the Wars of the Roses.
