Cronos: The New Dawn

Hardware RT mode definitely has its visual benefit at removing the UE5 boiling effect and distracting Lumen artefacts around the player as the GI tries to render around the player.

If you can manage the extra FPS hit then even with the shutter struggle it's worth the hit of what I've found now several hours in vs putting up with the software Lumen dodginess.

Nope not boring, it's unforgiving too with no difficulty setting making a good challenge and keeps you constantly on the toes.

Doesn't look like it reviewed very well and most of the focus seems to be on the tech. That's always a red flag in my book.

Edit. Misread, reviewed quite well

Yes the technical issues are UE5 optimisations related which Bloober should have learned from given they did Silent Hill 2 remake which had the same issues.

Upgrading suit inventory slots is crucial.

The attachment you get as part of the story for the sword is rather useful. I'll not say anymore on it as will let other discover what it is if they haven't unlocked it already.

Half way through I'm finding it real hard. At the section where I need to acquire the mavity item, I'm out of healing items and ammo and have to get through 10 enemies

Melee enemies doesn't work, so I'm trying to speed run past them now, if it fails then maybe my save is buggered and I have to start the game over. It's not cool to design the game in such a way where it's possible to break the game by running out of items needed to progress

I've passed the bit where you get the bolt cutters, I'm now in the room where you have to kill the 2nd boss after the lift and I'm low on ammo so having to try to melee flammable containers when he's nearby whilst burning myself in the process is..... Interesting.

Yeah it's stupid, I'm considering use a god mode cheat just to get passed the current section. I'll try without it a few more times but it's hard trying to run past a dozen enemies, pick up an item, then run back past a dozen enemies in narrow corridors - they're quite fast and have ranged attacks

Lack of skill is probably the problem :p

Well I did it :D But by the literal skin of my teeth, the final shot that killed him left me with no ammo for anything and no resources

Enjoying this so far but you don't get a minute's peace! Always something else round te corner trying to kill you.
Oh come on..it is absolutely the other way round. The game has great pacing with thought out enemy encounters and placement. There are many moments of peace in this game when you look for loot, read notes and get to know the story. The worst thing a game like this could do is to throw tons of enemies at you at every step which is not the case here.

My impressions after completing 55% of the game:

The more I play, the more the game keeps surprising me in a positive way (I’m 55% through). I mean in terms of certain solutions, ideas, and how smoothly the gameplay “flows.” For me, it’s a sleeper hit, because I didn’t expect it to be such a good and expansive game, but from the start I knew it was a title for me since I’m a fan of this type of game and gameplay.

I really like the pacing and balance, because the worst thing a game of this kind can do is overwhelm you with enemies at every step. Here, that’s not the case—encounters and enemy placement are well thought out and intuitive. What’s more, the game doesn’t exhaust you with endless waves or excessive numbers of enemies—combat-focused sections are cleverly interwoven with moments of exploration, reading notes, upgrading your character, weapons, and gear, and uncovering the story.

The level design also deserves praise—paths often loop back, connect, and surprise you. It’s truly a well-thought-out design, and while playing you can clearly feel that the developer knew what they were doing and what kind of game they wanted to create.

Everyone has different opinions. You can clear an area out and then to exit you then have to face other orphans that weren't there before that have spawned from somewhere. Orphans coming back to life which you can sort of expect from games like Dead Space. It's a good game and I do enjoy playing it and pacing was my thoughts on the game up to that point.

You think the game is fairly paced which is fine. Others may not. That's just life.

I am not forbidding you from having your own opinion. I reacted because you wrote 'always something around the corner' which is simply not true. This game has more peace and quiet moments than Dead Space 1.

I'm still stuck here!
