The most widely known method for a person or group to construct a crop formation is to tie one end of a rope to an anchor point, and the other end to a board which is used to crush the plants.

Human, especially as almost all of them contain errors when looked at in detail.
Why would you get lopsided or defective space craft. It's not like we make defective cars is it.

I live on a farm, and we used to own a piece of arable land that would get crop circles every year as it was situated on a hill, so nicely visible to the public. Often found such "contraptions" if you can call them that left by the side of the field the day after a crop circle would appear.
Then we would get the inevitable hoard of lunatics trampling all across the field to "feel the energy" inside the circle. Pain in the back side at the best of times.
My dad had the foresight to charge people coming to visit one year, made quite a bit of money if I remember right.
