Crossfire 290's

Evening all.

Dumb question but when you put two cards in a rig for crossfire do they have to be in adjacent slots?

I received 2 R9 290's this morning and the card in the lower slot is not being identified at all, not by device manager or the catalyst software.

If you have the 'Crosshair IV Formula', you should be looking to use slots 1 & 2.

ok so I now have the two cards in slots 1 and 2 and theres nothing doing at all with the second card. It won't show up in device manager or catalyst control. is there anything else i could or should be doing before I box it up and send it back?

So .. the BIOS claims there is nothing in slot 2, 3 or 4.

Any ideas, BIOS is version 1403 x64 04/09/2013.

Have you tried the card which isn't being recognised in slot 1 on its own?

Its the crosshair V formula-z

First try a new BIOS -Crosshair V Formula-Z BIOS 2101

@CWG - yeah, I have tested that card in slot 1 on it's own, nothing doing. I could try it in a different machine I guess but I am really not holding out any hope that its going to magically spring to life. I think it's got an appointment with the post office very shortly.
