Crossfire, Catalyst and Ati Tool trouble.

Hi All

At the moment my current setup is a 800GTO^2 (BIOS Flashed and over clocked)on a A8R-MVP board, 3.2 Athlon 64 and a Gig of RAM. Not exactly a flying machine, but good enough for me.

Problem 1.

Last week I picked up a Sapphire 850 mastercard for a good price, so I though I'd get a little crossfire action going. I installed the mastercard, loaded up the drivers etc from the CD, opened up the advanced view in CCC, enabled cross fire and away it went. No problems at all.
Since it was Cat 6.14 on the CD I though I'd get the latest version, so Downloaded 6.3 and installed it. However, when I now open the advanced view in the CCC there is no option to turn on crossfire????

I uninstalled it and put back the 6.14 version from the CD and it works great.
I then tried installing Cat 6.2, but it's the same , no crossfire option in CCC.

I might be missing something here, but as far as I'm aware there is no special version of catalyst for crossfire cards...........or is there and I just cant find it?. Anybody know what's going on?

Problem 2.

How the hell do you overclock a secondary crossfire card? (I'm back to Cat 6.14 with crossfire enabled). Since my 800GTO^2 is now the slave card I'd like to screw the speed back up.
When I go into the "Devices" dropdown box in Ati Tool, it sees both Master and slave cards. I can O/C the master no probs, but If I choose the slave , it asks me to restart Ati Tool. When I do this it comes up with an error message saying the card I have chosen is not currently being used by windows.

Anybody got any ideas?

Are you installing the cards in the proper way? The master card goes in the pci-e slot furthest from the cpu, the slave card in the slot right next to the cpu. Then the dongle gets installed like this:

Edit: just read more closely and it seems crossire is working with one driver revision but not another, hmm. When you uninstall the catalyst software do you boot in safe mode to remove all traces of it with driver cleaner? As for overclocking, i think that the master card clocks also get applied to the slave.

Cheers for the replies.

The drivers were removed everytime using ATI's own uninstaller and not just Add/remove programs. As I said before everything works OK with cat6.14 from the CD.

I don't quite get the bit about the mastercard clocks being applied to the slave card as well. According to ATI Tool, both cards are running at their respective stock speeds, (I can't remember what they are because I'm at work at the moment)

Abit off topic but .. Can you post your results of 3dmark 05 please ;)

Was thinking about doing the same thing with my HiS x800 GTO

The Stock 800GTO^2 was running around the 4000 in 3Dmark05. With the BIOS flash and overclock it went up to about 6000.

With the new crossfire set up and both cards running at their default clock speeds I'm getting around 7500. I'havn't looked to see if this is good or bad yet. Hopefully once I find out how to overclock the 800GTO^2 again this will improve.
