Behind you... Naked!
Ok, not that long ago, I was asking about SLI... on the cheap purely to mess about more than for any serious gaming.

I have that system running a pair of 6600GT's just nicely in an A8N-SLI Mobo and I love it... Ok, its not going to scare my main systems of course its not, but it it only for my 9 year old daughter who only plays Barbie and Little pony and such rubbish.

Now, Im going through my older bits here the other day, and I have come across an X800 that I have flashed to x850 and its running sweet still, I also have a crossfire Mobo too... Bugger, what is it? AVP or MVP or summat? - anyway, the exact Mobo is not important right now, its a crossfire board, thats all I need to know right now.

So, I was thinking...

I should be able to pick up a master card for pennies shouldnt I?

I know with SLI, all I had to do, was have identical cards, but with xfire, I need a master and a slave dont I?

Anyway, the Card I got here, is the Saphire X800 GTO2 that has been flashed to X850 as I said.... I could if need be, put it back down to x800, but can I use this card with another to crossfire?

Not really all that bothered if not, its realyl only a thought cos lets be honest the 6600GT in SLI mode, is as everybody told me, was a total waste of money and not anywhere near the performance Id hoped, but hey... Its fun and thats all I need them to be.

Thanks.

Crossfire/SLI a laugh?

Personally it makes me cry but whatever floats your boat.

As for your question, sourcing an X800 master card may be a touch difficult these days and AFAIK the X800 in Crossfire only support 1600x1200 resolution and no higher?

Crossfire/SLI a laugh?

Yup... a Laugh.

Why? Whats wrong with that?

Personally it makes me cry but whatever floats your boat.

HeHe... It does not "Float my Boat" at all, but I have 3 kids, and my daughter has 2 cards in her PC, and my youngest son has been hassling me for 2 cards in his, and I dug out some old PC bits and it runs fine, so why not throw a PC together thats crossfire capable?

The resolution is not a problem.
I think you are under the impression, that I need ultra resolutions??? - I dont!
1024x768 is the most that the kids Monitors can do... Hell, even 800x600 is fine by me.

Seriously guys... I knocked up the SLI setup for a laugh, and I enjoyed it... Its a great little system and runs sweet as a nut now. So, now I want to piddle about with a crossfire system. Its not in any serious capacity by any means, but there is surely no harm in having some fun out of it is there?

I believe we had the same argument/debate when you made the SLI post. Im still struggling to understand how you find SLI/Crossfire a laugh. Is it the ****ing about with profiles and trying to get games to work with aging profiles and hardware a laugh?. You have a weird sense of humour my friend :D

Seriously save the cash and get a sensible single card configuration which will out perform the aging X800's

No.

Its not the money.

Its not tryign to get games to work with aging hardware, because the hardware is far more advanced than the games Im running on those systems.

The systems are for my kids... They are 8, 9, and 10 years old and the most advanced game they play is UT2004, or Need For speed, and eve a single 6600 will be adequate for playing those games, so its not at all for gaming...

For what its worth, and I dont mean to boast here but I have extended my house purely to setup a small LAN for myself, my kids and my friends, and I have a few seriously stupidly powerful PCs, with my main PC ( Living room ) running an 8800GTX on a Q6600, my No2 PC ( LAN Room ) is running a pair of 8800GTS cards ( Although one will go into my eldest sons PC as soon as my UT2007 games arrive ), so its not like I cannot afford it because I can.

Oh, and just for you to have a real laugh... I only bought the 3 8800 cards purely because 2 mates and myself were talking about which is faster... GTS SLI or single GTX and I only bought them to show off... I dont even need them.

I just like messing about with them. Im sorry if you cannot see that, but then, everyone is different.

why are you posting here? you have plenty of cash. you enjoy tinkering. you don't care what other people think. just do it.

As the original question...

I cannot "Just do it" because I was asking WHAT CARD CAN I USE?
I dont know what card I can use, or where I would get one from
Thats what I wanted to know in the first place.

Oh, and I do care what others think... Its unfair of you to say that.

I wish I had the money to buy things “for a laugh”.

I dont really have the money... The wife goes nuts with me all the time, I have to admit, but if the cow wants a kitchen, then I want a new PC...

Yes of course I should not ask for a competitors info... I didnt mean to ask that but it does come out that way.

Yes, more of a which cards can I use kind of question rather than where.

Anyway, I have just done a bit of a cheat that I might actually get away with...

The SLI machines both have the little SLI thingy between them right...

Well, what I have done, is used the cheap and nasty WinFast NF4 with the 6800GT and simply hung the SLI connection from an Asus and its actually going to the soundcard.

Ok, it aint going to fool no one ( Double Negative ) but it might just fool an 8 year old.

Plus, the 6800GT has PixelShader3 and the x800 doesnt... Something I have only just realised half an hour ago when I tried to run MOH:Airborne on it.

Cheers all.

I think its amusing to play with SLI, etc. myself...

was all set to give 8500GT SLI a whirl for a laugh til I burnt out the spare 680i board I had... never did like it anyhow... midway booting into windows the North Bridge finally fried itself.

It's simple sell the X800 that is in there and use the money you would have spent on another X800 to get a better card

I would recommened an X1800XT you could pick one of these up for around £50 im sure. Performance/compatibility is bound to be ten fold

Like I keep saying...

Its not the performance I am after.

Its for my 8 year old sons PC and he wants 2 cards like Jessica ( Thats my 10yo daughter ) has in hers ( The 6600GTs )

However...

The X1800XT seems a nice enough card... Ill put my dibs in on that one linked up there, so cheers for that.

Ahh right I see now. Well you could still try to source a X800 mastercard but I really think it will be like finding a needle in a haystack and when you do find one someone will want a ridiculous price for one. Hope you get sorted anyway :)

Well the OP will actually neeed to find a crossfire mastercard. I dont know how easy that will be in & of itself though.
