CrossFire HD 2900 XT GDDR4 beats SLI 8800 GTX

Hi there

Tomorrow I shall sort a cracking price out for anyone interested in the 1GB ATI cards making Crossfire a very tempting solution. :)

If its 250quid I shall be buying one as soon as I get my bday money from my parents :p .

I mean 250 quid is a cracking offer, but if its on offer for around 290 quid, then thats an 'ok' offer.

I really can't wait until we get some accurate, unbiased benchmarks of the new 1Gig 2900s. (And hopefully a nice new price from Gibbo as well) Really hope they scale as well as they should and give some decent performance.

I was 90% sure I was going to go for a GTX next. Was. Damn.

You would be mad not to get the GTX still if you can afford it, its much faster than the 2900.

1gb of Ram is just a gimmik, and another way for ATi to con more money out of unsuspecting ppl, plus its only about 2-3fps faster than the much cheaper 512mb 2900.

Its exactly the same as the x1950 XTX's, they were only about 2fps faster than the much cheaper x1900's, and they were not selling upon release either, everyone was just saying **** that ill have the much cheaper x1900, don't be conned, 1gb of gfx memory is not needed and doesn't make a difference, if it comes down to about £290-300, is 2-3 frames really worth £60+ over the 512mb, when a slight overclock on the 512mb would pass that, not at all, GTX is the only way to go imo for that price.

i have a 22" monitor and always fancied 2 graphics cards, now is it worth getting 2 2900xt 512mb crossfire cards?

i mean i know i will get a performance boost, but it costs just about same than a single 8800 ultra XXX, also would the corsair psu be able to handle them?

pretty much. i can only *just* jutisfy my gtx on my 22" dell. on my sony lcd its a different story.

It's not just that, you're covering yourself in case you upgrade your screen. That GTX would cover you over 24" and probably run a number of games well at 30".

This is why I always tell people to try and stretch to the 2900XT/GTS 640 if they're thinking of buying a GTS 320. Both cards are a fantastic price, and carry a significantly higher level of future proofing. :)

What the hell, im getting over 12'000 with a core 2 duo and a single gtx. how can a quad cpu and 2x gtx's be getting the same. This article is a load of nonsense, either that or they a using the wrong drivers. Sure ive heard vista's 06 score perhaps fall a few hundred (if that) but 4-5000? I don't think so :o
