CrossFire master card question

Hi all,

Quick question about these. I notice they have 1 DVI port and a dongle connector port.

Can you still use two DVI outputs on this card if it's used as a single card. I.e. my plan is to get a master card now and upgrade later but I need to connect 2 monitors via DVI.

Just need to check :)

Cheers!

Dont think you can as as you say the master cardw only got 1x DVI port, the other one is the dongle connector which is different.

Im not 100% sure on that though, so id await some more replies from ppl who would know for sure. :)

Oh yeah it has to, as thats what connects to the monitor, suppose the other one can just be left loose then as you won't have another card to connect it. :)

EDIT: Just checked and thats right its dual DVI, the crossfire connector must just act as another DVI with the dongle attached if you don't have 2x cards.

Yep i have one - tis exactly that.

One question though...if running one mastercard which slot to put it in? The slave slot or the primary?

If your just running a master card on its own then it will just act like a normal card, so whichever slot a single card goes into, like the Primary one as you say. :)

One thing I suspect (maybe someone can confirm or deny) but I have the crossfire rig below with it set up correctly and with each install of new CAT's I tend to actually disconnect the display from mastercard dongle and attach dvi to master's natural dvi port ( which always appears as No 1 connector / monitor in windows) otherwise when I install drivers I get "Zero display" error.

Ie when monitor is connected to card without the dongle this error never appears---strange huh?

Im running quite a similar system as yours and never had that problem, even using the cards on A64's with different lcd's

Ok well thank you for that - I just cant see what else it would be (as the display actually works as it should at that point)

Cheers anyway
