Hi all,

I am currently running an XFX 6850 Black Edition card and it's good. As the newest cards are way too expensive I was looking to get a second 6850 for crossfire. However I can't find the exact same card anymore, but I did find the XFX 6850 Double D card. This has a slightly higher Clock speed then my current 6850.

So If I got this and put them in crossfire would my slower card drag this one down? and does it matter in what order they are placed in the PC? Or the other option is I could get this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-204-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1866 and if possible bring the clock speed of this up to the Black Editions?

Thanks for any and all advise.

Both card will run at the lower speed, it's timing issues. (make sure you get the card with the same ram if it differed i.e. if original is 1gb, make sure new one is) However you can always just clock your cards to match the higher speed if it'll take it. Mixing makes shouldn't present any problem! Bear in mind, my 6990 default is 830/1275 where's a 6970 standard is 880/1375 I think... so I've just clocked them all at 925/1450 and runs like a dream.

Yep, it'll be just fine. The performance difference between the two cards at their stock speeds might not necessarily be that great anyway, so the loss when both are running at the slower speed would be negligible. You should be able to overclock the new card easily.

Thansk for the info. My current card is clocked to GPU: 850Mhz. The card I posted is set to: GPU: 775Mhz so I should be able to overclock it within the Catalyst drivers control panel.

Looks like I know what I will be getting with my Birthday money :D

Easily clocked to that. Good luck and enjoy, believe me the Xfire scaling in a lot of games is spot on... although some people bang on and winge for me, it's perfect for prolonging the life of an older spec PC and WORKS!

FYI the faster card isn't slowed down to the speed of the slower card with CrossFire but I imagine things work smoother if they're the same speed.
