Does anybody know if you can put a 512mb pro in with a 256 mb version of same card?

I only ask now as I have a 512mb Ati 1950pro and have the chance to buy a 256 mb version for a good price. In other words, do the crossfire cards have to be the same manufacturer, same memory etc etc?

thanks

Andy

have heard in reviews it has to be the same manufacturer not sure if memory size makes a difference

what manufacturers are they ?

Doesn't have to be same brand, or memory size, just stick the 512mb one in the primary slot so you get its memory 512mb, as you lose the memory on the card in the secondary slot.

looking at there site it seems the cores and memory run at very different speeds so i would guess even if it did work you would be crippiling the faster card slightly

but if i had to guess i would think it would not work

edit sorry was looking at the 1950xt speeds seems they are both the same speeds

They can also be different speeds, both cards will run at their individual clock speeds.

As you can see from the FAQ here , open qestion 3 for the compatability chart, and number 7 for the clock speeds. :)

Any 2x can be paired together as long as they are from the same family, so x1950pro 512mb CLub3D will work with a Sapphire x1950pro 256mb in crossfire for example.
