i need some honest advice, would two X850XTs in crossfire be anygood, or would it be better to go for two 7600GT in SLI, since you can get X850XT for less than it cost for 7600

Which means nothing if he has a 1280x1024 tft.
 
Yeh buy 1x 7900 gt. you might be able to add another cheap later for sli. The 7900's o/c like crazy as well.
 
but as said all of the above is wasted if the person cant get above 1280x1024 ;)
it all depends on the monitor you have as to whether a whopper like the 7900/x1900 is worth it as you may aswell have a x800/6800 gen graphics card instead for 1280x1024.
 
I can see that point of view and I definitely agree that SLI/Crossfire is not needed for those resolutions but my X800Pro is starting to struggle a little with the latest games at 1280x1024 so I have to run some with 2xAA vs the usual 6xAA, 16xAF :)
 
i have 20" acer widescreen LCD monitor, and play doom 3, quake 4, battle for middle earth 2 (highest resolution would be best), need for speed most wanted, americas army and so on

lol vs the usual 6xaa and 16xaf
i didnt even bother with aa and af till the i got my 9800pro then i tried applying it on some games to find it struggled so i turned it off.
same goes for the x800 instead i'm running css at 1600x1200 smoothly.

EDIT: ^^ in that case then yea a x1900/7900 would be beneficial to you as you can atleast run the 1600x1050 or whatever widescreen is (unless your acer aint widescreen?)

Even in that case I'd still get a single fast card for £300 like the X1900XT over two X800s or two 7600GTs in SLI/Crossfire

Your motherboard doesn't support SLI or Crossfire either adding further expense

I've always bought mid range cards so I've never really used it either. My last card before the X800 was a GF4 Ti4200! I had a Radeon 9000 in my laptop after that but that still wasn't a high end card by any means!

When I bought the X800Pro it was the most I've ever spent on a graphics card so I went a little nuts and tried to see what it can handle

The problem is now I'm use to playing with all the fancy stuff on so I'm looking to upgrade again! :eek: It's a vicious cycle :)
