crossfire

do the cards have to be the same to crossfire?

reason i ask is that my 3870x2 fan sounds like it is going to drop off any second, what i was thinking was to get a 4870 to keep me going until the card gets repaired or replaced with another 3870x2 or get a 4870x2.

now i know a 4870 will cross fire with a 4870x2 but would a 4870 crossfire with a 3870x2?

im fairly sure that you need identica cards to crossfire successfully

I think you can mix and match, so yeh it should work

Ummm im not sure if it would work, im sure it was posted somewhere that the 4 series wouldnt crossfire with the 3 series cards, but dont quote me on that. Maybe they have fixed it im not sure.

It is supposed to work, but ATM does'nt.
Should do in the future but for now, CF 4800 series together.
