Crossfire ?

I use quadfire and the load is even across all GPUs.

What is this obsession I keep reading from some people regarding it must be 99% usage for CrossFire to be worthwhile? so many that I've read seem to be so focussed on is 99% usage = great fps.

Upon my own checking the usage only climbs the more action happens on screen and has no bearing on the fps. I've seen some of the streets with little action and the usage could be 45 - 55% but soon as the action hits I've seen it reach 85 - 90% and my fans speed starts to climb. Thats also why I keep vsync on due to the noise.

The load is also even on my two 5870's.

Well for me as long as i get 60fps Vsync i don't care what the load is :).

Crossfire>SLI all day

Wow, was easy typing that, and with nothing to back up my statement either.

I wrote it so it must be fact :D

The fact that I have owned just about EVERY single Crossfire and SLI set-up released and built thousands and thousands of computers puts me in a position to comment.

you could not be more catastrophically incorrect

Guys, I was not being serious. Hence ending with smiley.

Maybe I am too tired to get humoor across properly.

In any case, it does irk me a bit when people post things like that and just expect people to accept as fact.

At least tell people why you feel that way.

For most part, things work with AMD, games work ok, things require a bit of work to get games running smoothly, then AMD bring out the next drivers and it breaks everything,
like 12.3+ kills overclocking and forces my second card into 3d mode constantly (well documented over the net). One of AMD's main selling points "zercore" simply does not work (at least in crossfire),
Sleep mode is a total no go with AMD drivers, the problem I have is crossfire does not load balance in games correctly after sleep mode and requires a reboot.

I don't have any of those issues.

No SLI issues here then.

Agreed about the zero core, and the sleep mode problems.

I don't have too many issues once I disable ULPS.

Though I haven't tried sleep mode again for a little while...

Thoughts on AMD crossfire support, getting better IMO.

I feel like its improving a lot and i'm happy about that. I bought 7970x2 at release and was somewhat peeved initially that some games didn't work right (notably Batman: AC) but this has mostly been fixed and I couldn't be happier now. Also -- ME3, Alan Wake, Kingdom of Amalur had day 1 CF support. I also bought GTX 680 sli at release and its a great product, no doubt about it, but I didn't feel like it was an "upgrade" from 7970cf.
Edited: Quote.

Anyway, any else have an opinion on CF support lately? I've been pretty satisfied as of late.

Wow does it really make that much of a difference? I have the antec 620 it's perfect for me. I don't think I can lap it though the surface looks very thin already. Would a good air cooler lapped be better than one?

Sorry for going off-topic.
