Crossfire.

Ahh right, thanks :)

Btw.

GTA V ******* SORTED! :D :D :D

Memory available ingame menu, is now only 8192 MB, and still says im using 6944 MB, but, when increasing/decreasing settings, the memory bar is filling/unfilling, so even though it says im using 6944 MB still, its fine, as memory bar isn't full :D

Woohoo!!!

EDIT: I downed the 15.7.1s from the Fury downloads section, as they now seperate from the 2s. :p

Updating my drivers from the 15.7s solved it, its bloody flying! :p

I have run crossfire on and off with budget cards the last being two 7770's. I do recall the odd game taking some fiddling to get both cards working together, however the games I ran when it worked seemed to yield decent performance.

I like the theory of this as you stick another card in later on when they are being replaced by another line for a fraction of the costs and get performance back.

I had a 7990 which did ok, and now just a single 290x. When the time is right I will not have a problem picking up a cheap 290x and going back to crossfire. :)

Up to the release of the TX I had crossfire for 18 months which I intended to use for 4k, instead I had an excellent looking 800 quid setup and thats all it was, good to luck at, not sure what it's like now but I won't be going back for a long time.

Andy just completed witcher 3 With my CF Fury Xs, performance was awesome, even matching and beating SLI 980Ti's with all the Hairworks stuff turned on.

GTA V on the other hand currently has some issues, scaling isn't fantastic and there's stutter still, random fps drops etc.

Any games you'd like me to test feel free to ask and if i have them i will.

Afaik CF as of this moment in time, is fine for the vast majority or games, as always with multi card setups, there will be quirks and issues in some things along the line.

I think the question you need to ask your self Andy is, are there any soon to be released games you think you'll need CF for? As we know AMD have struggled to put out much in the way of CF profiles in new game release windows as of late.

If you wouldn't mind, Grid 2 for me please, if you have it, can let me know if you get the weird flickering just on the loading screens, where it tells you your best drift, times etc... while loading your race and that, also on the Grid 2 badge logo screen, where you select your profile right at the start, game plays and runs great apart from that odd issue, no flickering, nothing, will have to cap the frames though, as was going up to, and over 220fps in places, it flys (no flickering at all when i disable Xfire). :p

Had a 295x2 which was great for most games but it would stutter a lot in GTAV whether at 1080p or Ultra HD VSR.

The other main reason I switched to a single card is because the length of time AMD took to release profiles for new games was unacceptable for me. Great new releases like the already mentioned Witcher 3 can be pretty depressing when you have to wait weeks or more for the profile. Witcher 3 wait was the last straw for me unfortunately. Again, if you're not bothered about new release profiles, crossfire covers most games so is still a great option for some.

lol weeks. I'm still waiting 8 months for elite dangerous crossfire profile lol.

I ran xfire 7970s for a long time. Only game i had trouble was bf4 always had flickering and it drove me insane, actially ruined the game for me if honest as i dont play it anymore.

Recently changed to sli 980ti's and couldnt be happier.

thats bf4 fault not amd faults i even get that with 1 card sometimes, but it depends on what map your on.

People's perceptions of what is excellent and what is quite poo though differ massively.

I recently ditched two Titan Blacks as they were beginning to creak at 4k. People say SLI is amazing and works really well? well I don't agree. I thought it did, but certain games were unplayable and I think I know why. Basically I could get 40-60 FPS out of Witcher 3 at medium settings. The issue is though it was like I was drunk.

It did not stutter but it just felt very strange and controlling it seemed a bit of a lottery. I am guessing it was Gsync that was making the game feel weird, and whilst it did remove stutter it added in a very odd sensation when the game was moving fast.

It was so bad that I literally could not play the game. Going from that to one card? it's absolute heaven I just wish I could crank the settings even higher..

I had this on my Titan X SLI...all you had to do was turn borderless fullscree to fullscreen.

Every patch resets it to borderless

I've been watching crossfire closely for the last year, I tried it a couple of years ago and hated it but since then they fixed the old problems and I've been considering another try, The main problem now seems to be with releases, They're slow releasing profiles, If you want to play every game as soon as it's released you'll struggle but if you're more concerned with playing your favourites and you're in no rush to jump at new releases then you won't have a problem, When they work they seem to do better than SLI.

Well I found out yesterday that the flickering issue I had with my Titan Blacks was down to a bug in the driver and was caused by Gsync. It was so bad I could not play the Witcher 3, even though I was getting a supposed 45 FPS easy. It just felt like I had came home drunk out of my skull and was attempting to play video games (and yes, I've tried it..).

I think the way to go is Fury Nano. I'm worried that another rad won't fit in my rig and would prefer it small and not so intrusive.

We shall see :) but all I wanted to know really is if I can *successfully* disable Crossfire so it's like it isn't even there. If I can do that without consequence I will be happy.

Yep can do that fine, you just go into the CCC, and click on Disable Xfire, screen will go black, come back, and you'll then only be running on 1x card, ive tried it a few times, no issues :)

Wicked thanks. I think it's Nano all the way then unless they are total cack.

There are two ways to disable CrossFire Andy. Firstly you can do it, as mentioned above, via the Overdrive tab. CrossFire is disabled in everything and the second gpu will sit awake in 2d clocks.

Additionally, you can disable CrossFire via a game specific profile rather than Physically disabling it via Overdrive. The advantage of this option is you can leave the second GPU in ULPS (Ultra Low Power State) whilst the other GPU is at full load.

I tend to use option two personally but that does involve adding the game exe to CCC, so a few extra clicks.

Or as I said, the easiest way is to just go Windowed / Borderless :P
Speaking of.. are there any plans to make xfire work under those conditions Matt?

Matt every time I used that game specific thing nothing happens. For example, Borderlands has no Vsync. So I put it on on the profile and nothing happened.

That's why I am worried. I even tried global Vsync and that didn't work either.

One Fury X takes care of 4k but it would be nice to have a second card so I can boost game features a little.

It's something we're looking at, but no promises.

To globally force Vsync you'd need to do that via the game unless it's an OpenGL title, in which case you can force it via CCC.

If you're adding the correct game exe, then you should be able to enable/disable CrossFire that way. Just checked CCC and there is only a CrossFire profile for Borderlands 2. Is that the game you're referring to?
