I am trying to size up a graphics card upgrade and seeing what will give me the best bang for buck.

A question popped into my mind, if I crossfire an ati card with another, but they have different memory sizes, will there be a boost in performance than two cards with the same memory?

For example if 1 card has 512mb and the other has 1gb, will there be a boost compared to two 512mb cards?

I imagine that the 1gb would slow itself down somehow for compatability purposes, but I thought i would ask here anyway.

Thanks people

When you say they will both only use 512mb each, I thought it would only use the amount of memory from the lower card which is 512mb & the other 1gb from the other would not be used.
So only 512mb in total not 1gb 512mb from each card.

By going Xfire you use some of the speed from the 2nd card but not 100% of it & you get zero use of the memory from the second card.

I have 3x 5770 with 1gb of memory each 3gb in total but I only have the use of 1gb.

If I was you just buy one powerful card I am about to sale my 3 cards & get 1 480

I have had trifire for 8 months now & I still have to use 8 month old ATI drivers to get the best out of the setup 10.4a ones.

But it does look nice having more then 1 card in the case I have to say

You're almost right. The memory on each card gets used but they all hold the same info as each other so it doesn't stack. The 512mb card can't hold 1gb of data so both cards are limited to 512mb.

Also, 10.4 are 4 months old, not 8 :p
