crossfiring X1950's.....have to be exact same model?

as per title, just trying to find out, with the x1950's do you have to have the exact same model to crossfire them, or would my GT at 600/1550 be ok matched with say the OCuk x1950 Pro?

oh and P.S can you buy the crossfire cables as an after purchase order, either direct or from OCuk if poss?

If it supports crossfire then yes, they will work, BUT the pro will be reduced to the GT's level. I would suggest overclocking the GT upto the level of the PRO. (not much to it really, 75mhz I think).

According to that, I dont think you can pair the X1950 pro with anything else other than another X1950 pro.

Im looking into finding a crossfire card at the moment and it seems a bit of a minefield. The X1950 pro has a built in crossfire chip which could be the reason why but im not definate on this.

My mistake then, i was under the impression a gt was -basically- just a declocked pro. I thought it could still be crossfired (via PCI-E interconnect).

I would say that comes under the 1950xtx tag at a guess. Either way, it seems to crossfire XT's or XTX's you need a CF card anyway which, after doing a bit of a search, are near non-existent!

So much for using crossfire as a cheap upgrade, seems a pretty pointless procedure if they dont make the cards long enough to use it.

x1950pros and x1950xt don't need an interconnect, they can use the software link using PCI-E instead of cables or little pcb's. (i.e. no crossfire card needed as they already have the chip to do this).
