Crowdsourced Hardcore Tactical Shooter

I absolutely loved Rainbow Six, SWAT etc back in the day, it's a complete tragedy that R6 was turned from tactical shooter to a moronic, story-driven FPS and SWAT hasn't even been seen or heard from in years.

The fact that people these days think that Battlefield et al are tactical shooters says it all really. All that's really left is ArmA, but it's a little too hardcore and too open-scale for my liking.

Might have to grab Raven Shield off the shelf behind me and give it another blast now...
 
The revolution has begun.

I am loving how the masses have woken up and are now pro-actively giving the big finger to the gaming industry.

Make games what we want, or we will fund them and make them ourselves, **** your millions, eat **** and die.

Oh how I miss RvS, it will always hold a special place for me. Are the servers still running? Did you try the RavenShield 2.0 mod? http://www.moddb.com/mods/raven-shield-two-point-zero

That looks pretty damn awesome. Haven't touched Raven Shield in years, last time I tried it online was when I was still living in South Africa (must have been 2004 or thereabouts), there was a small group of guys who were keeping it alive.

May have to see if there's still a community out there, it'd be great to play it online again.
 
Never got into these sorts of games, did enjoy playing Swat 4 with a mate...but never got into the whole rainbow six thing.

Would like to play something new like this, as those r6 games are looking dated now.

Nah, it'll start to pick up then 2 or 3 bad games will come out and it'll die again because people will realise they've donated millions of dollars to games they haven't even seen a screenshot of, maybe ones that don't even have names yet.

Hopefully in the mean time some innovative games will happen and give the industry a kick up the arse, but the general public won't be willing to put money into every dev that comes along and says "give me money and I'll make a game!"

I'm a musician and see exactly the same thing in that industry all the time. Independant labels become popular for a while, then suddenly they all disappear when the public loses interest because they've become a little too eclectic.
 
I don't they are going to make enough funds, 16 days to go and they only made a quarter of the money, i would also prefer third person play for pc as i rainbow six rouge spear was really good with that , they just need to make an up to date version of rouge spear imo ..

So what actually happens to the money already pledged?
 
Dunno that is a good question , maybe everyone gets refunded back on there credit cards?, if this project accepted paypal i am sure it would make enough funds easily.
 
Pledged $25, you dont get charged unless it makes its goal by april 1st btw. So you get charged nothing just now.
 
Sounds like a good idea. I remember the first time i played the original Ghost recon... amazing. Id love to see this type of game come back. Supported!
 
Rainbow six, Raven Shield, Americans army etc were great and other games like it, although I support his effort I don't get on with kick starter, it just doesn't sit right with me putting down any money for a game we yet to see, too much to go wrong. Too many cases of people talking of what they can do but fail to deliver scare me away from it too much.
 
I cant believe it they've done it! Last minute funding means this is going to go ahead, I bet they'e over the moon! Will keep a close eye on this now..
 
Wow that's great! I miss SWAT and (proper) RS dearly. I'm sure it'll be at least 12 months before we can get really excited though.

Did anyone play The Regiment? That was a bit of fun.
