Hi.

Looks like I will go the CRT route again ;)

Of the following three 19", which do you think is the best? I want picture quality and sharpness. 1280x1024@85hz and higher.

iiyama Visionmaster PRO 451
Dell Ultrascan P991
Samsung 959 NF

Many thanks for any advice.

Hi mate. I'm afraid I don't really know much about CRT's at all, I'll edit the title and we can hopefully get some input from the CRT users out there :)

Just done a quick search for specs and the Samsung is aperture grille which means it should be a good screen. The Dell is also aperture grille and made by Sony so that means it's one of the excellent Trinitron screens. The iiyama is again a good Diamontron tube. Bit of a review of the Iiyama here-

- where they mention some lack of focus in the picture, so maybe that's not the best of the three.

I'm guessing you've found these on ebay, so you can check out the full specs on the individual item pages, so I won't reproduce them all here.

Sony have the best reputation though so I would suspect the Dell would be the best of the three. I've never used any of them though.

visionmasters are always very good monitors, go for the 454 though.

There are better crts out there, but nevertheless it is an excellent range, very good for gaming, pretty sharp, and very good refresh rates. Good colour representation.

Certain Mitsubishi monitors are better, and ones using the sony trinitron tube like the sony crts and sun microsystems crts are the best ones though. I have a sun microsystems 21inch GDM-5510, and it is truly magnificant, hrd to come by though, i got lucky on ebay and got a mint in box unused one for only £200.

Nice, thanks for the info and thanks for editing the title BA.

It is the 454 and not the 451, seems the seller has made a typo.
One guy is actually selling both the Dell and iiyama, which means I will be able to compare them on the spot! Sweet :)

Will also go hunt for 21"+ screens based on the Trinitron tubes.

Thanks for the help!
