crt monitors

new is a hard one but the dell pro range are good p1100 & a dell p1130 both use sony trinitron tubes & can be had for as little as £40.... newer ones are hard to come by but sun systems do newer 21" crts based on the sony trinitron tube. Have a spy on google or even that colourful everones a bidder site they may have what U need. I just wish crt's werent so big but got mine back on my desk again (Dell p1100) as I'm annoyed with my viewsonic vx922.

You can get them new just try google product search
can i ask why annoyed with your viewsonic vx922 ?
isn't this supposed to be the mecca of gaming tft's?

Compaq p1220

I was considering getting a really expensive 24" TFT but decided to upgrade my 19" Trinitron to a 22" Compaq p1220. I don't think it's actually any bigger than a 21" but they have a really good reputation and does 1600/1200 at 100Hz. They use Mitsubishi Diamond tubes which is a slightly modified version of Trinitron (I think). I think the Mitsubishi Diamond is meant to be slightly superior though.

Available you know where for under £50 including delivery. Maybe you could pick one up for half that if you can find one within driving distance

Edit: there are a few other threads recommending this monitor that you can probably find by searching this forum

it kept defaulting to 75hz in cs which made the game play choppy.... sorted now like just reinstalled the drivers :D

I've just bought an Iiyama Vision Master Pro 513 for £67.something on ebay and so far it works very well.

As the post above indicates you can only really go onto ebay and hope to pick up something second hand now. It's a pity because what I'm using now is just awesome :)

No not at all there's loads of places selling crt's and well known sites too.
i take it you can't use product search on google then lol

sorry to hijack the thread but tipsy, do you run your vx922 at 100hz for cs? as i recently changed over to a vx922 from a 19"crt!

nah I run it at 60hz seems to play nicer vsync would be off for that & I dont really like tearing at all. I can run it at 75hz as thats default, stuck in my ways I guess 6hz vysnc on or 100fps or more vysnc off. Try this developer_1 in *** console on cs & then set your frames fps_max 300 :D have a laugh I did

Yeah pretty much all TFTs work at 60 Hz internally, so even if you select 72 or 75 Hz (100 Hz shouldn't be available), the screen will just interpolate down to 60 Hz, so you're not really gaining anything. Hence you may just as well use it at 60 Hz.

yeah i know about developer tipsy, i've got a screeny of 699fps constant ;)

what res do you game at in 1.6? i'm currently using 1024 and 75hz, i'l play around with 60 and 75hz today, i had a problem at 60hz finding that it felt slow! as i used to paly 640 on my old crt at 100hz

run it at 1024*768 been running the same res for years & dont really like it any higher as it slows the game down, 60hz is fine for me not that much of a serious gamer anyway. I'm more of a lets just kill owt that moves or play scoutzknivez ;) played clan stuff for years & was recomended a dell p1100 so I got one & its nice but its soooo heavy.

I've found 2 tft's that I've liked but only ever one crt and the above is it.

what I've had recently

Belinea 2230S1W

really didnt like this especially the colour shift

Dell 2007wfp

got an rma on it recently due to serious backlight bleed & picture dulling, very odd. The new one is great & really rivals the viewsonic for games

Hanns-G HW191D

its not a bad tft but is tooo small comming from a 21" crt so its back in the box, a year old & nowt wrong with it. This was great for gaming and its bright (perfect for cs/css).

Viewsonic VX922

The ultimate gaming 19"FS, great for most thins but really this is the only monitor I found to rival my crt

Why would anyone want a CRT in this day and age?

sharper colours,
true blacks,
higher colour contrast,
no dead pixels,
larger vieweing angle,
ability to change resolutions,
quicker responce time.

need I continue?

only reason im still on CRT (NEC FE1250+) is because of the way my mouse sense changes completely when going from 100hz to 60hz lcd, suddenly feels really slow and i HATE it when my mouse sense changes, i cant aim in css then
