Crucial M4 troubles

Firstly I feel a bit bad posting this as I haven't investigated fully yet and its late and it could be something very simple, however..

Was just browsing the internet, had a few background apps running - nothing too major. All of a sudden black screens + computer shut down completely, one second later rebooted itself.

First thoughts were temperatures had hit a threshold and shut the computer down (unlikely with the cooling I have), the ASUS boot screen as per norm followed by insert bootable media drive prompt.

Second thoughts are that the boot drive/SSD has died/ loose connection. The bios is now only detecting my secondary data drive so can only assume this is the case. Restarted and tested to check for consistency (same issue).

The drives only 9 months old, so is in warranty but was wondering if anyone knew how the crucial RMA process is? Fortunately I backed up my SSD last week so any data loss should hopefully be minimal.

I will diagnose tomorrow, check connectors and cables and test in another machine should it come to that.

Update: Powered down the system whilst typing this post, turned back on with 'Start Windows Normally' crash message. No error reports in windows/ blue screens or anything, can only assume its a loose connection somewhere although the pc tower hasn't moved from under my desk for over 3 months and it cant be knocked by accident. Will attempt to run a full drive backup + SSD life + SMART scans.

Crucial RMA is fantastic. have a read of their forums. see if you can find some solid info and if it looks like a duff drive contact crucial and they will get the ball rolling.

They will ask you to do a few diagnostic tests to find your issue and eventually if the problem isnt resolved give you the RMA number.

I replaced an old 128GB crucial M225 and got an M4 as a replacement within a week. Thats a 2 generation upgrade.

5 stars for crucials RMA.

I've had to use Crucial RMA 3 times in the past, was pretty good, nothing special. Would have prefered if all of my Crucial ram didn't fail within a year. Make sure you are on the UK site, I sent some RAM to america first time around and learned about overseas charges the hard way. :D Can't fault their RMA though.
