I'm RMA'ing my Crucial M225 after it recently started developing problems in Windows.

I have received RMA information via email that suggests that I need to send it back via FREEPOST - however I am unsure how much this actually covers the drive for shipping, and whether I can track it, etc.

Has anyone done this recently and if so can you comment on whether you sent it via this FREEPOST, or sent it Special/Recorded Delivery at your own cost, etc?

IF they tell you to use FREEPOST then do so

When at the post office posting it ask for a proof of postage receipt (free)
that way if it goes missing you have proof you sent it and crucial will have to
give you new stuff. IF you follow their instructions then you are covered

:)

Freepost will likely be 1st or 2nd Class Standard insured to the value of 100 1st Class stamps (£41) and you can't track it. That being said the tracking on both Recorded Signed for and Special Delivery is pretty poor anyways.

However if you make sure you get proof of postage as per lurkio's post then you should be covered by both Royal Mail and Crucial. I'd suggest getting confirmation from Crucial themselves that if it goes missing proof of posting will be enough for them. Last thing you want to do is post a £100 SSD and only get £41 back from Royal Mail.

If I wanted to send it insured & next day (I can do it through work) would I just still send it to the same address, etc? Possibly a dumb question but wasn't sure if FREEPOST automatically gets filtered differently at the destination.

I would imagine you just remove the "FREEPOST" part of the address. Unless it is a PO Box or something it should still get to where it needs to go. Again if you want to be certain give Crucial a call or e-mail them.
