From what I can see, the T705 is a Gen 5 NVME, with a pretty awesome set of benchmarks for read and write performance.

Anyone here actually have one and can comment on whether that really translates into a useful improvement in games?

It doesn't.

Even sata SSD drives are generally enough for games, buying a gen 5 nvme at a huge premium is a massive waste of cash for purely gaming purposes. You can buy a 1tb gen 4 SN770 or similar for £50-60 and it's more than ample speed wise.

The fact is there's very few real world usage situations that benefit at all.

The difference between hdd and ssd is huge, between ssd and nvme is a little, noticeable when in multiplayer games and you get in before your friends etc.
Gen 4 and 5... Not so much. Maybe a few seconds. It'll become more impactuful in future when loading is designed around it, but may as well wait until then to buy as the drives will be much cheaper by then.

They are slightly faster on average at loading large games and apps, so if you do really large projects or scan through massive volumes of photos, for example, then there might be some noticeable improvement.
